building your own is the way to go for sure I built the one I'm on right now when 800mhz was the fastest processor .Only time I got the BSOD was after installing memory that was later proved to be bootlegged it was supposed to be micron but wasn't .I've updated sound card ,video card ran a bunch of drives with it and a couple of OS's no problems out of the ordinary

Ritek isn't what it used to be you have a read error verifying the burned disc against the iso file ,look at the disc and see if you can find any blotches even if they're tiny maybe a spec of dirt or something on the disc while burning the colors will be different .Depending on the burner theres mixed reviews with those discs ,here at the forum I'd say most of the people use either Taiyo Yudens or Verbatim I know I do and I haven't burned a coaster in 2 -3 years or failed to verify .The Riteks I burned some years ago were the GO4's and they still read fine the GO5's you can take them or leave them

cheap media saves you nothing in cost usually deteriorates quickly and many write problems .The log from IMGburn would have been nice as it has all sorts of info on it .Get better media Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are about as good as it gets

I'm suprised to hear that you're having problems with Verbatim discs I use quite a bit of the 004's without any problems with an NEC3500. Verbs are at the top of the list in media Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: MCC-004-00 Book Type: DVD+R Part Version: 1 its possible that the drive is going south on you ,you should at the least get a kit to clean the laser and see if it helps ,re flash the firmware ,firmware is where all the media "brands" are recognized ,do the DMA thing and see if it helps .You could also switch your drive to your brothers machine and see if its OS related keep in touch and we'll get it figured out
