  1. I think you are missing donta's point, he wasn't taking the piss but rather asking how you got to where you are now as in what was your learning process with computers. I doubt he was suggesting you learned to drive at Sears. When has anyone said you were hostile? You just seem to persist even after you've been give your answer.

  2. Actually Vice Prez and she's already alledgedly had the baby, now her daughter is knocked up. Most suspect the moms baby as actually being the daughters as she missed 5 months of school due to mononucleosis the same time the baby was born, with mental illness to boot. Sara Palin has brought a whole new meaning to the term political scandal as the list goes on and on. She is also currently under investigation by the state of Alaska (where she is gov) for firing the State Police chief because he wouldn't fire one of his officers who is/was married to her sister and was unfaithful.

  3. Forget about the Mac. For power get a desktop, for portability get a laptop. Laptops are nice, but they just can't keep up with desktops unless you go ultra high end boutique style and then you have to worry about heat, dropping them etc. An external drive should be about the same as an internal drive in a desktop...in fact you can buy an external enclosure and put an internal drive in it (same difference).

  4. SL = DVD-5 = 4.7GB disc. These are your run of the mill discs that cost around 30 cents each.

DL = DVD-9 = 8.5GB disc. These are the special ones that cost 3-4X as much and hold not quite twice as much.

A new external burner will cost about $60-$80 and your 200 discs are about the same. Laptop drives aren't really great burners, but external ones can be excellent. You really have nothing to lose either way.

    A little cheaper than I thought ~~

I don't really know a lot about externals, but Lite-On makes some solid drives.

  5. It's just a common suggestion to try different media. Generally speaking there isn't anything wrong with Sony discs and most people don't have problems using them, but when a poster starts having problems and everything else has been sorted short of replacing your burner then the media gets pointed at. We always recommend Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim because they offer a wider degree of compatibility and support with burners and stand alone equipment as they have impeccable quality standards. Sony, Memorex, TDK etc. can offer up problems to some people and their equipment because, while every manufacturer is supposed to be held to certain specs, they don't seem to have the same guidelines to produce quality material which be seen by the consumer disc after disc after disc. A good place to do some research is right here in the Drives & Media section of Imgburns forum or for some real scrutiny you could breeze by CDFreaks for some more comparisons. We and others have done the testing for you so that you don't have to.

  6. W 16:19:26 Failed to Write Sectors 0 - 31 - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error

This typical of cheap media or a drive with one leg in the grave....could also be the cables are bad, you could check them out also making sure they are properly seated on both ends.

Looks like a new drive is in your future. :)

  7. Region codes and frame rates (NTSC vs. PAL) are two different things entirely.

The region code tells you where you can play your DVD and in what machine, basically locked to one area of the world or another. NTSC and PAL are frame rates which are different, if your DVD player can't handle a different frame rate then it won't be able to play the video on your disc.

You can easily make a DVD region free, however changing the frame rate takes a little more doing.
