Why are you trying to burn a DVD DL image to a CDRW?
-
Glad you got it sorted Chedders...happy burning.
-
Generally speaking most if not all laptop/slimline burners are shiite compared to their fullsized brothers....I would recommend a nice external burner.

Does the MajicJack do what it promises?

I have two DVD players and both are Sony....no issue using any of the +R discs of various brands I've used, but I don't buy -R so I can't report any performance issues there.
-
You Sony player doesn't like the discs you are using. Try a different brand, we suggest Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden, or a different format (+R) as your burner is capable of booktyping.

You can lengthen the time the popup screen between burn is shown by going to Tools>Settings>Write tab, bottom right corner. All the information about which drive was last and which drive is next can be located on the popup between burns.

You can't increase the capacity of the disc and splitting doesn't make much sense. You can compress it slightly using DVD Shrink. Because of the capabilities of DVD Shrink we can't discuss it's usage here, but a quick google search will turn up some good stuff for you...it's another free program.

I've not found any conflicts with it, but better safe than sorry though...it is a good idea to verify your burns as well.

s the 'build' function necessary?
Build mode is for everything that isn't an image....so if you don't create an ISO and you want something on your disc, the you'll have to use build mode.

I 09:48:20 Destination Device: [1:0:0] MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-820S 1.00 (D:) (ATA)
I 09:48:20 Destination Media Type: DVD+RW (Disc ID: INFODISC-A10-01) (Speeds: 2.4x)
Unfortunately your drive/media combo are shite. As suggested, try the verbs and if they don't work you might look at a new drive.
