It would be good if you can post a log from ImgBurn of the burn in question, if you go into Help on ImgBurn toolbar you will see that you can access past logs from there. Just copy and paste the one you want into your reply and we will take a look. If I had to guess I would say that all is ok, none of my drives start burning at 8x, 12x or 16x they all start out slow and build up to speed during the course of the burn - I would bet that this applies to everyone here on the forum. As for Nero - it lies.... I have to use it at work sometimes and it claims to be burning at a certain speed but if you take the time to work it out you can see that it's not. How long did Nero take to burn the same dvd that ImgBurn did ? If you compare burn times I will be surprised if they are not almost the same, which means that Nero just reports the speed you requested instead of the actual speed like ImgBurn.

Ok, as donta said above it's not a replacement for Decrypter. All development of that program has now stopped and instead the author, Lightning UK! is working on this program which builds and burns and keeps him out of trouble !! Well apart from the incident with the sheep and the rubber glove.....

Can I ask why you are using DVD Shrink when you are burning to dual layer discs ? You can miss that step out completely and use ImgBurn to build the .iso and then burn it to your DL's Btw those DL's are not great for longetivity, we only recommend Verbatim DVD+R's for dual layer burns. Finally you might want to get ImgBurn to verify the disc after the burn especially with dual layers, it might give you a heads up on whether those discs are any good with.

Burn-proof is not the same as verify. Burn proof allows the burn to finish succesfully when their are issues over the speed your HDD sends data to the drive for an example. These could cause the disc to be crapped if not enabled Verify does as polo said, it cycles the tray and then checks the burnt .iso against the original image to ensure all is ok. If you really don't want this you can turn it off in the settings.

I use DVDinfoPro all the time, results are in the Media/Drives section of the forum You can grab a free (ad-supported) version until you are sure you will keep using it

Why ? ImgBurn is not an archive program so I would never expect it to be able to decompress any files I wished to burn.
