that's very strange indeed? you have been using those same disks off the same spindle? your firmware is the first release but that drive is not that old that it shouldn't see such a common mid code http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2209
-
look at post #2 regarding dma on your burner, http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=59 rather odd tho to get kicked into pio mode so soon? what's your motherboard? Using XP sp2?
-
get the OS and drivers loaded, and possibly windows updates, main for sure apps then defrag and make a drive image restore points are fine but soon lost
-
chipsets in LG dvd burners do not support PIE/PIF scanning some would argue quite successfully that the rpm/cd/dvd speed graph is more reliable

I did a strange test, I had a dvd I had burned with Imgburn earlier, I had imgburn read the disk and start writting an iso, after it got started I opened my computer and clicked on the drive and disk, which starts power dvd, it started playing after a small lag and imgburn was reading away, I cancelled both since it was only a test. Only possible scenario and a crazy one at that. During a burn the drive would be locked, or let's hope so.

ImgBurn will not read/rip or mount any protected/encrypted dvd's Google is your friend

the faster 003's http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=1178 future shop had the 20 packs of the 2.4x for 20$ last week in their mid week flyer

cath, there's all kinds of "other devices" that make the computer work, you are using windows xp sp2 right? it's not a good idea to start anywhere below that proper order is load xpsp2 then load any driver(preferably from the mobo's web site or in some cases from the actual chipset maker) or if the mobo is newer use the cd that came with it. those chipset drivers that support the northbridge and your video should be loaded BEFORE the video driver for the vid card other device, just means windows doesn't know what in the hell it is
-
check device manager for any yellow exclaimation marks

when I read your posts over at digital digest I kept thinking why is he even fooling with dvd dual layer? compressing over 5 hours of video down to fit a single layer wouldn't be something I would want to attempt however the obvious solution is to divide the video into 2 parts and burn to single layer noone should complain about changing a disk in a 5 hour marathon of home video, if they do I will be glad to tear their arms out

no cd burner? old computer, no usb2
-
Hmmm, rather rare old(march 2005) oem firmware, it wouldn't like verb 8x media at all I would try a crossflash to codeguys 1693 before I wasted more expensive dual layer blanks http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1693S KC4B

according to the author of MCSE, firmware tables may list burn speeds that are actually disabled have you tried to set 2.4 as a burn speed?
-
will dell let you go back to 109? more dellhell? oem drives are an accident waiting to happen
-
would you pop a ritek d01 in and verfiy what you are saying? post the right hand screen/ copy and paste I loaded your B109 firmware after extracting in MSCE(latest version) and the 2.4x is listed as a burn speed
-
that's become a fact of life in a lot of forums lately even "use google" might be a dangerous reply of course people have a hard time with the concept and/or meaning of the word No.

Is there a way to slow down the erase?

I would favor sony dl MIS over verbatim dl MII, tho both should be some of the best compared to any other available there have even been samples of maxell? MIS mkm's sent out, looks like verbatim/mitsubshi is making some for other brands now that production in India is starting

make sure the dvd burner is connected to an 80 conductor, jumper it as master and connect to the end of the cable with no other drive connected to the ide cable or the power connectors from the power supply verify in bios and device manager that dma is set for the drive correctly
