  3. I heard of a college professor who plugged in his new dell tower and turned it on and it burst into flames in his office, Dell had a new one delivered the next morning and picked up the old one, no charge! Some people get better service
  4. I gave up on usb2 over a year ago(w/ exception of mice or jump drives) Seen a few chipsets that reach 16x with usb2 and dvd burners? E-sata seemed a better option? especially for hard drives can you all transfer a 4.4 gig file in 2 1/2 minutes?

    pesky lower filter

I have removed it 3 times so far over a period of a month or so, thought I was going crazy at first, but did a test last night, remove it, reboot, it's gone, then play an mp3 and it's back.

    pesky lower filter

Upper Device Filter: redbook Upper Class Filter: [None Found] Device: CD/DVD-ROM Device Lower Class Filter: MxlW2k Lower Device Filter: imapi Filter Name: MxlW2k File Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\MxlW2k.sys File Version: 1.0.1.109 File Description: MusicMatch Access Layer KMD Product Name: MusicMatch Access Layer Product Version: 1.0.1.109 Company Name: MusicMatch, Inc. Copyright: Copyright ? 2000 MusicMatch, Inc. I remove it since I don't allow musicmatch to burn anything, never have but then after playing an mp3 the filter is back?
  7. donta, a lot of the externals I tested last year with multi gig transfers could only sustain 13 MB/s firewire around 23MB/s very chipset(enclosure) dependent how are you measuring a 28 MB/s transfer, I used a calculator and a stopwatch
  8. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=...=43#post1749212 it's a long thread but I would assemble my own after seeing the results of tests
  9. Has anyone seen the made in india ones yet, as rumored to be in shops last month? Are disks on the continent(incl UK) even labeled by country of manufacture?
  10. A drive can be broken in many different ways, usually burning dvd's goes first, reading last, sometimes everything dies laptop dvd burners were a bad idea and shouldn't be relied on for heavy use and are best used occasionally
  11. I guess I would want a big e-sata drive to save those avi's
  12. The Backup I have does not thrash about when a drive reads the backup but not the dual layer original, that usually indicates a problem with the hardware, if it can't read dual layer how can it burn it?
  13. if someone selects 2x speed for a dvd+r disk in imgburn is that a problem? How can they even select that speed?
  14. I would get a good external dvd burner also
  15. good point, wonder what the play time is for those large avi's per gig
  16. Just their new stuff vista, ie7 and mp11
  17. I don't get much experience with removing filters personally
  18. I was pretty sure of the answer, as the registry loads at boot up? Just didn't want to specify it(reboot) if imgburn had some way of removing the filters on the fly? 19. when removing filters do you need to reboot the computer?
  20. purple is one of the colors I have trouble with, thanks guys, just too many lines going at once finally figured out the 6K is rpm, duh! no wonder a cracked disk makes such a loud pop when it disintegrates inside your drive
  21. mark this day on your calendar folks, burning 8x media at 12x, what has the world come to? damn I hate being partial red green color blind and trying to read those lines thank god for physics was the drive locked for 4x on verify? bottom line?
  22. hell of a fast camera
  23. pies r squared I think to start at 8x would involve spinning the disk at a speed that would allow ~48x speeds at the outer edge assuming the outer edge is 2.5 times further away from the center? 20x is already pushing the envelope
  24. chewy

    TISP

that's some potty humor for sure
  25. If it's getting over 500 burns it might be time for a clean/overhaul or replacement Some drives do a few hundred, others almost 1000 burns
