I tested a lot of TYG02's with my benq 1620 and never got
consistently better burns at 12x than at 8x, might have just had a very good disk when you tried 12x
my last batch(200) of value line TYG02 GG000077(no dbl stmp)
came wrapped in a new plastic, and top white generic cover
they are definitely lower quality out of newer production runs,
still very good media but usually 200-300 and up PIF total
try and burn 4x media at 8x and get consistent pif totals
less than 50
the word value applies but not seconds
bulk pack is the operative term and quality is not what it used to be
stuff was probably made way over a year ago

poor guy ordered 24cent blanks, everyone else is getting TYG02's some 03's.
they send him the old stuff, PIF total 34

there's a 2.88 firmware
even it's dated 11/10/2004, but there is an excel file with supported media
I'd stick with good 8x single layer media
might be worth a go with a drive conversion and the newest firmware?

here's a datadisk nec 3550 @ 16x yuden T02(8x media) dvd+r sony brand
quite informative about the lousy nec error correction

lightning,
one of the theories said it's related to relinking, but your graphs don't confirm, another reference said empty blocks in the data?
Have you tried scanning one of those spikes in a liteon or plex?
The benq's have a tendency to exaggerate(not good or bad) certain flaws in burns.
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtop...t=0entry13338
with the nec >8x burns and scans by benq you see a lot of screwy results, even the 4571, QR of 89% but POF total of 1030
4551 an enormous spike at 2.5 gigs
these spikes tend to not be reported in liteon and plex scans
read a few theories, nothing concrete
life/mill?
on the other side of the pond, oem/bulk came with G firmware.
We got B firmware on our oem's from newegg. The only difference
was firmware and software AFAIK, B firmware scans, G does not!
Q suite software works with B firmware, maybe benq will give up this schitzy foolishness?
my benq 1650 seems to like pioneer burns, even 3 year old ones on princo media
my nec 3550 hates them!
