  1. In case anyone is interested this particular drive is an external drive and is a usb capture device, at the back of the external are some inputs --- composite video in (RCA) Left, Right stereo input (it also has s/video in) Tested the capture bit with the included software honestech one touch, External has a one touch button to record straight from source eg Sky/freeview etc. Seemed to work OK and quality for capture was very good, strange thing though on selecting highest res to capture it gave me a warning about having low CPU power, your having a laugh i got a core 2 duo 2.4. This drive cost me 35 GBP (retail boxed) OK I thought as it's a really nice external case/drive. Looked for firmware could not seem to find any will keep looking but if anyone has spotted some please post link, thanks Scan.co.uk have it, dabs, novatech, bigpockets, orbit computers think ebuyer has this drive as well.

  4. The nec with the original firmware 1-01 is fine erases full/quick / writes to ram and verifies the disc no problems. Anything written with any of liggy & Dee's writes fine, and verifies back on any other ram drive i have except the 7173a, unless i put the original firmware back in. As a rule I only cross flash or use unofficial firmware when i have to, Eg the 4 SPD 2400 drives i had were shit when i got them and i could get no support from Philip's at all even though its got their name on bezel, I knew b4 i contacted Philip's though but you get nothing unless you ask and i was desperate to get a firmware for it or rather them as all 4 would write dvd-r without error but the disc's would not load in 2 of the 3 xboxes i have the 2 with samsung dvd rom drives hated them, the Thomson one would load them, on examining the disc i could see the lead in was not quite in right place, The liteon 1635s also had this problem, well it would do saying as it's the same drive, It took liteon quite a few firmwares before they fixed this issue, hence why i had no option to cross flash back to liteon 1635s (i like these drives now) The Nec had no option either as i want to be able to book type single layer DVD+R to -ROM. Cannot understand why any company that produces writers does not make this command standard as if i knew that say a liteon 1700 existed and wrote to all formats at top speeds and allowed full bit setting on all media allowable i would be banging on retailers doors to buy it.
  5. Just verified the data on the panasonic disc that the nec with 1-02 firmware wrote and it verified OK on the pioneer 111 so it would appear the integrity of the data is fine, just cannot verify it with 1-02 in nec oh well it burns and verifies all other media i have burnt thus far and allows me -rom on dvd+r SL. Can live without verify on ram on there.
  6. with fast write off though i can only burn at 1.3 max on 3 speed media with all my Rams via Sumvision Enclosures (bq 1670 pio 111 nec/opt 7173a) Also write with 1-02 fail verify, chuck original firmware back in, use same disc that 1-02 just wrote (eg not burn it again) and the verify completes without errors, chuck 1-02 firmware back in and verify against image and it fails which leads me to think flakey read with 1-02 or any of the modified firmwares)
  7. An update on this, I flashed drive to 1-02 as mentioned above and have tested various media, I have a few other writers that are capable of writing to ram disc's, The other drives and the panasonic ram media i got from Svp would only write at most 1.3X. I was thinking it was down to Benq 1670 then i got pioneer 111 and it did the same, tried the Nec/Optiarc tonight and it did it as well, all these drives are in external usb2 enclosures using either prolific 2506/2507/3507. Anyway they only way i can get them to burn at the max the disc does is to go into settings the Write tab and tick DVD-RAM / BD-RE FastWrite checkbox. I then burned a few off and went to verify it failed with loads of mis-compares, etc, now several tests and flashes later i can tell you this, Dee's 1-02 1o1, 1-01bt can all write these disc's but cannot verify them, The original 1-01 which i put back in can write and verify them, using 1-02 to write and then flashing back to original 1-01 will verify them, So in conclusion I am putting 1-02 back as i need the ability to book type to dvd-rom this firmware offers over the original 1-01 which cannot set DVD+r SL to -ROM, as 1-02 can write but not verify the disc it has just written, however there is nothing wrong with the data it's just 1-02 has something about it that DVD-ram verification hates whilst using 1-02 (i know the data integrity is fine though even though it will not verify) Sorry if i repeated that several times. I hope anyone interested knows what i mean.

  20. quite an old drive now, and i remember mine struggled towards the end still works but with Sony not updating past 2.1a it lacks the media codes of all the recent media codes from past 2 years maybe even longer. IF you could get hold of some ritek G04 you may have better luck, you may also find that the Sony will only burn them at 2X instead of 4X. So try and get some 4X media only (avoid 8x above etc)
  21. I pay ?30 for new titles with a local store to my region called Grainger Games, they also have pre-owned section, not many though. The nunchuck is hard to get hold of as well.

  23. I was gonna buy one but then got sidetracked and bought a shit load of other useless stuff to mess on with. And the second I buy one for 400+ twats will drop price to ?25 or even less, as was the same when i bought my Sony dru500a for ?285 could get 16.764705882352941176470588235294 writers for that now. Albeit price took a while to go that low, half price shortly after i buy one though no doubt . edit The LG dual format one is the one I want, apart from I wish another company would make a similar writer , I have never been that keen on LG writers etc.
  24. Know what you mean, the nec i got has labelflash, I got some Fuji disc's, just need to install Nero 7 now to be able to use that feature. Your right epson compats and printable disc's are so much cheaper why bother with lightscribe or labelflash.
  25. I was tempted to flash my pioneer 111 to the L version to add labelflash. you can also add labelflash with the 111D version. Decisions, decisions.
