Yep. Your disks are garbage. Toss them into the bin and buy some *genuine* Taiyo Yuden or Ritek media. They don?t get any worse than CMC.

Do other burning programs (except Nero) work properly? Are you using an up-to-date virus scanner?

What type of files are you trying to burn? ISO files of some sort (disk image files), video files, etc...?

It?s a possibility, I suppose. Seems like alot of work for something that?s only used once per session by a small number of users. Still, if enough people request it Lighting may (or may not) incorporate it. He?s the programmer so it?s up to him to wrestle with it.

Err... why? If the ?eject after write? flag has been set, the tray will open and close automatically after each burn.

Blu-Ray? I?ll pass. At least for the time being. Truly great games on any platform are far and few between. The selection of 30 mediocre games available for the PS3 release don?t float my boat. Even worse is the fact that software houses aren?t being given the specifications they need to produce killer games. How the hell are supposed to be able to create a brilliant game if $ony won?t provide information of the console itself?

I saw a quote many years ago that said something along the lines of - ?The only true way to make a computer safe is to turn it off, disconnect the leads and then bury it.? I won?t be. The problem is that it?s got to have something that makes me want to buy it and that means either expandability or fantastic games. How good is the PS2 without Gran Turismo? My point is that it?s great if it can display colours in their millions and perform millions of calculations a second or even do cartwheels but without a lot of solid games or the opportunity to improve on it (a la original XBox), it?s useless. You don?t need whizbang graphics, multi-megahertz CPUs or thumping 6.1 Dolby surround to make a game enjoyable. Tetris is a great example of this. <Dr Sigmund Fraud mode off>

I sure as hell won?t be rushing out to buy one. The hardware in the PS3 is alot better but it?s also alot cheaper these days too. The one thing that does disturb me with the PS3 is that it?s rumoured to carry a unique ID number which it sends off to the Sony servers if it?s allowed to connect to the net. (Basically the same as Intel did with the Pentium3 chips many moons ago). I won?t be buying a 360 anytime soon either. Interestingly, I saw the other day that the ?unhackable? XBox 360 has been hacked with a replacement firmware.

Weird. The PSU on my PC?s have these switches (110v/240v). As does the VCR, DVD recorder, portable tape decks, mini hi-fi?s etc.. etc..

If you buy an external burner, make sure you research it a bit beforehand. Some use what?s called an ?ALI Chipset? and it?s caused no end of frustration for dbminter (one of the beta testers here). That?s what I was going to say. It?s pretty common to see these switches on the backs of portable tape decks, PC power suppies etc over here in the colonies.

It?s a +R drive and basically, you?re stuck with it. With hardware being as cheap as it is these days I?d seriously consider buying a new drive that supports multiple formats. I?m guessing the drive you presently have was fitted with your Dell computer when you bought it?

I could fill a small room with the hardware that?s died on me over the last 20 years. From blown cpu?s (they smell disgusting when they melt) to dead HD?s and motherboards. Welcome to the wonderful world of computers. Great, innit? As Lightning_UK! suggested, a new drive is a good idea. They?re dirt cheap these days. If you want an internal drive, grab a Pioneer. They?re a lot more friendly. That?s my opinion anyway.

CloneDVD is needed just to install the ElbyCDIO device driver. Think of it this way. (I?ve just finished a 14 hour shift and I?ve had a beer or 2 so stay with me). Think of burning a DVD like driving a car. You car needs to travel down certain roads to get where you want to go. Yes? Imagine SPTI is a road you need to use and it?s full of potholes, bumps or that it?s flooded (broken) etc.. What you need to do is find another road so you can get where you?re going. By installing the trial version of CloneDVD you provide another way for your drive to talk to the software using the ElbyCDIO driver. Just like having a different road you can drive your car on. Information sent to and from your drive is sent via a different driver. Like taking your car on a different road. If you install the trial version of CloneDVD - by default - you also install another ?road? that ImgBurn can use to talk to your drive. (I?m trying to make this simple so I hope this makes sense). So....... install the trial version of CloneDVD (which will still only have the 30 day limit) but, most importantly, it will install another way for this software to talk to your drive.

You don?t need ASPI. Take my word for it. ASPI is old and redundant. Your problem may be a corrupt SPTI driver. Download the CloneDVD demo (which installs the ElbyCDIO driver) and change the interface used in the ImgBurn settings from SPTI to ElbyCDIO and see how you go. A tracking program like WinTask seems to be what?s needed.....if it can be replicated.
