db without his medication... db with his medication...
-
Well, that's ONE thing I could do...
-
Well, I'm being patient...

Would someone please make sure db is taking his medication.

As it states below, and I'm sure the others here will agree with me; "Using dual-layer discs? Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are the only way to go."

Failure to Write Sectors 32-63 With Queue
Movie Junkie replied to flyinonice4's topic in ImgBurn Bugs
LUK; That seems something like an error I would get using DVDD. It would happen one time in about every 25-30 burns. It only happened on DVD-R media. Here is part of the log; I 15:32:45 Write Mode: DVD I 15:32:45 Write Speed: 4x I 15:32:45 Test Mode: No I 15:32:45 BURN-Proof: Enabled W 15:32:45 [0:0:0] SONY DVD RW DRU-710A BY03 (F:) (ATA) - Selected Write Speed: 5,540 KB/s (4x) W 15:32:45 [0:0:0] SONY DVD RW DRU-710A BY03 (F:) (ATA) - Actual Write Speed: 4,432 KB/s (3.3x) I 15:32:45 Filling Buffer... I 15:32:46 Writing LeadIn... E 15:38:16 Failed to Write Sectors 32 - 63 - The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. If I aborted after the error happened and then started the burn again it would work without any problems. I've kept track of the discs on which the error happened and so far none of them have had any problems with playback. -
I can't hear you, you young whippersnapper, could you please speak up?
-
I wasn't concerned about the router being defective. I was just wondering why it happened. Your previous explaination got me to understand what was going on. Thanks again Shamus.
-
Thanks Shamus. Are there places you would recommend? Not unless you're in Brisbane. Try Google. (city name + computer auction) I forgot about where you live. I'll give Google a try.

How do the discs play on your stand-alone DVD player?
-
Thanks for explaining it to me. It does lead me to one other question. Since I don't remember requesting anything other than just going to the site is it possible that the attempts were to open a "pop-up" or something like that? Since I have them blocked that could explain why there were so many attempts.

I actually still use my old one. Plus I want to give him something quite a bit faster than 450MH. I want to give him something closer to the 3.4G that I built.

Thanks Shamus. Are there places you would recommend?

I also stick with the Verbatim branded. That's the best way to go. Btw...just because you've gotten good burns don't trust them. You're just wasting your time in using those discs because you'll need to do them over once you get the Verbs. VERY IMPORTANT! DO NOT USE THE DVD-R DL DISCS. STAY WITH THE DVD+R DLs. Good luck.

Sazziei, it sounds like you need a dual-layer disc. The problem is that they don't make a dual-layer RW disc yet. In addition, depending on what you are writing to the disc, there are other things to be considered (layer-break for example).

Thanks for looking that up db. I'm glad it's true. It sure gives me a good feeling.

To give you a heads-up on part of my internet computer security, I have the output from my cable modem going into a four port Linksys router (not wireless). I have port one going to my older Dell computer and port two going to the computer I built. I have ZoneAlarm Pro on each of the computers. Both computers have networking disabled. Prior to getting the router ZoneAlarm would stop all of the incoming probes. After the router was installed it gave me an additional "wall" and ZoneAlarm would log much fewer attempts...EXCEPT that about two weeks ago I went to a site I am sure many of us here have heard of (no, it's not this site nor is it the old DVDD site). Below you will find a picture of what got by the router and was stopped by ZoneAlarm in a very brief period of time. I edited out the location. Anyone have any idea as to why they were able to get by the router?

Thanks Corny. I don't know why I didn't think about that. Most of the time the cheap systems are not readily upgradable and since I built my computer in 2004 (and had NO problems with it) I should be able to build one for him at a reasonable cost.

My son wants to purchase one of the so-called budget computers and I would like to know if anyone here has purchased one they would recomend or suggest he stay away from? I know I could do a search on the 'net but I would rather see if any of the users here have had experiences with these computers. He won't be doing any "heavy" gaming except for gaming over the 'net (Final Fantasy). I'm sure he will also be making MP3s as well as some other good stuff.

I'm not sure if this is true but I hope it is... MJ If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth. A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her...a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around-she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same. May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate .... to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude. I pass this on to you, my friends, in the same spirit.
