What is the correct 2.4.1.0 installer file size ?
Martin H replied to scuzzy's topic in ImgBurn General
For others that like me where wondering what had changed in the silent update, then i have just manually compared the huge changelogs(pheew!) from betanews(mirror-1) and ImgBurn's homepage, and the only difference i could see, where this one entry, which is missing from all mirrors, except mirror-7(ImgBurn's own "mirror") : Anyway, i just though that i would post the changelog-difference here, so that others dosen't have to go through them manually like i did... As a sidenote, then i really can't believe how great ImgBurn has gotten by now... - I mean, now we don't even have to keep Burrrn installed anymore LUK! for sure deserves all of our praise for releasing such an awesome and on-top-of-that free app, so once again, thank you so much LUK! -
For me personally, then the biggest selling point of ImgBurn is it's advanced configurability. Let's take something like verifying a burn. Most other apps have a check-box for that option and then it's that. Now with ImgBurn, then besides this check-box, you additionally have the option of defining with what reading speed that the verifying process should be carried out at, and also if you want to just verify the readability of the actual blocks, or to also check that the written files are bit-identical to the source files, and then if an actual verify error does occure, then ImgBurn tells you exactly which file(s) the faulty blocks belongs too. Now how cool is that, and that's of course just one little example of one little feature, and where ImgBurn has loads of those available. Of course then it also dosen't hurt that the GUI is very intelligently designed, so that each writing job dosen't take a bunch of clicks to get through, and that it's low on resources and un-bloated. At the end of the day, then you just know that LUK! has designed and coded the best damn writing tool ever made, period So why would we ever go use something else... (Just like Peter's foobar2000, which IMHO is the best damn audio player/organiser ever made )

...Personally, then i never make the normal type of multi-session writings, because of the very low price on empty media, which then in my head makes such operations totally useless, but the ability of doing non-linked multi-session writings is however something that i would personally really appreciate being added to ImgBurn, as it's not a question of simply saving a few pence, but actually fullfills a real purposse, like e.g. recreating CD-Extra releases with EAC written appendable CD-Rs... Sorry guys - I promise that this is the very last time for me to keep repeating this feature request of mine
-
Thank's for the tip LUK! I appreciate all your efforts, but personally then i will still use EAC for writing the audio session, since it supports offset corrected writing and although that feature isn't a critical feature, then it's nonetheless nice, since you e.g. get the possibility of being able to rip the copies back with AccurateRip verification support and also to be able to make copies of copies in several generations without loosing audio samples... This issue is of course entirely my own problem and not yours, and i appreciate all your great work on ImgBurn nonetheless Unimportant blabbing follows I used to use IsoBuster to extract the data track from the second session, but i have now changed to instead using Nero's 'Extras > Save Tracks' feature to save the data track into a .nrg image file. The reason for this was that IsoBuster dosen't re-allocate the filesystem before making the image, so if i e.g. needed to extract the data out of the image file later on, then IsoBuster couldn't do it, since the relative references of the filesystem where now invalid, and neither could any other apps if they didn't supported automatic reallocation of the filesystem. Also, Nero wouldn't write a IsoBuster made image of the data track onto an appendable CD-R either(since Nero dosen't support writing non-reallocated images of second session data tracks). I now use Nero for making the images since Nero intelligently re-allocates the filesystem when making the image so that i if needed can extract the files out of it without a problem with e.g. IsoBuster and then Nero also re-allocates the filesystem back when writing the image file to an appendable CD-R also.
-
Ahh yes, sorry about that LUK! I had completely forgot about IsoBuster's multiple-session hack of the cuesheet format and where initially just thinking about the spec-compliant cuesheet format. Nice addition indeed (although i'm still sad about not being able to write data images onto appendable CD-Rs with ImgBurn, seeing as i can't give up using EAC for ripping audio CDs into lossless images, since EAC offers secure reading modes to make up for the low error-robustness of the red-book format(i.e. just CIRC and without a third layer of EDC/ECC))

@LUK! & Wandering Freeloader : Thank you for both of your replys, mates CU, Martin.
-
Wow, that's really nice blackdavinci
-
*LOL* Sorry mate - wrong guy Thank's for the correction, cornholio7 ...I'm really comming off as an intelligent person around here
-
Could you please then also make an option for disabling it, as i personally hate it to death(and i'm sure many others do to)... If you know how to use your brain the slightest little bit, then you will find ImgBurn's current UI very user-friendly, and dumbing the UI down, just for the occasional imbecil is a pretty sad move IMHO. Of course i respect your decision no matter what you decide, as it's your app and hard work i'm talking about Edit: Hmm, wait a minutte... What am i blabbing on about here! Of course you will make it configurable, just like nearly everything else is, in your brilliant app Sorry for even asking about it, then @blackdavinci Please don't take it personally, when i said that i didn't liked your propossed wizzard, since it hasn't anything to do with your designing skills whatsoever, which i personally find very good btw, but is entirely based on the fact that i personally hate wizzards in general, and no matter if they are well designed or not... CU, Martin.
-
Just wanted to apologise to Tor for not catching the joke and thinking it was a serious feature request.... Sorry, mate
-
Yeah, i must be some kind of moron for not getting that the first time around, but thank's for the correction, mate
-
This is by far the stupidest feature request i have ever seen! And by the way, LUK is not stupid, you know... If he wanted to make an app which through out the entire writing process would consistently hold your hand on each and single step, then he would have allready done so! On top of that, calling an useless and utterly annoying wizzard/assistent for a CRITICAL feature is just retarded IMHO! Just my 2 cents...
-
Personally, then i really think that ImgBurn's design is very, very well made Just my 2 cents
-
Thank you very much for your reply, LUK! Personally, then i always write audio CDs with EAC, since it supports offset corrected writing and writes catalog numbers,ISRC codes and CD-TEXT data perfectly from cuesheets and WAV images(Burrrn can't write ISRC codes with my Plextor PX-755A, but that's cdrdao.exe's fault and not Gambit's...). Nonetheless, then many thanks for all your efforts, LUK!, and i'm sure that many people will love this new addition of yours CU, Martin. Edit: Btw, then i believe that you are refering to mixed-mode CDs, since the cuesheet spec.(CDRWIN appendix A) dosen't support defining multiple sessions. Mixed-mode CDs consists of a data track first and then audio tracks afterwards and where everything is in one single session, whereas CD-Extra CDs(Blue Book) consists of one audio session first and then a data session afterwards with one mode2/XA data track with e.g. music-videos and such. "CD-DAs" released as CD-Extra's are becomming more and more popular and so that was the reason that i would so much love if ImgBurn would be able to write bin/cue data images onto "appendable" CD-Rs with one audio session allready written onto it, so that i didn't needed having Nero around whenever i needed to make an exact copy of a CD-Extra release
-
I would personally really be happy if ImgBurn would allow writing a data image file onto a CD-R which allready has one audio session written onto it(done with another app; EAC), but where the disc is still left open, so as to be able to make perfect copies of audio CDs which includes a second data session with video clips and such i.e. CD-Extra CDs. Right now, ImgBurn says audio isn't supported, and because of that i unfortunetly need to keep having Nero v6.6.0.18 installed just for that single operation type, and i would just so much love to be able to ditch Nero completely
-
He he, i was actually beginning to wonder if you where ignoring me on purposse or what Cheers mate Exactly, you got it mate He he, no not exactly The reason i suggested to enable those options, is that as e.g. the %APPDATA% folder is a hidden folder i.e. you cannot see it in Windows Explorer, unless you have hidden files/folders enabled to be shown instead of hidden like they are per default, then if you do not enable those options in ImgBurn(located under the "Options" tab at the right side of the window), then those files/folder will not be included into the ISO image/disc that you are making. CU, Martin.
-
Yeah, that is very good advice IMHO I personally dosen't even bother making ISO9660+UDF bridges when writing data backups to DVD+Rs and just only use UDF by itself, since as you said, UDF is indeed very well supported on the different popular OSes like e.g. from Windows 98 and up(UDF v1.02), Gnu/Linux and Mac OS X. CU, Martin.
-
Please educate yourself before posting nonsense! The default filesystem selection in ImgBurn is ISO9660 + UDF! Now the thing that you have done, is to go change the settings from their default state(ISO9660 + UDF to ISO9660 + Joliet), without having a clue about what the effects of those changes being and then if that's not enough, then you have the nerve to go fill a bug report to the author and still after being politely explained by the author what you did wrong, then you still claim that it's an ImgBurn error Granted, in your last post you admit that it's not an ImgBurn error, but a fault of Joliet, but as noted above, then this is simply not the case either, and the fault is entirely yourselfs, period. Users of ImgBurn are supposed to know what they are doing, and if they don't, then there are plenty of other apps which hold the users hand under the entire process. Also ImgBurn even has an option for "holding your hand" as related to this issue as LUK! said previously. Edit: Ups, sorry guys - I totally forgot to look at the date of the last post in this thread before replying and hence, missed the fact that it was allready 9 days old and the thread probably considered ended allready #39;( Again, sorry about that

ImgBurn supports building and writing ISOs of files and folders from an allready present directory structure on your harddrive. It does not on the other hand support changing the contents "on-the-fly" as that is outside the "scope" of the ImgBurn application and if you absolutely need that feature, then you will have to use another app, like e.g. Nero Burning ROM. One option is that you could copy/paste the folder to another location e.g. another partition and then do the needed changes and then afterwards writing that folder to disc. Another and better solution IMHO, would be that you don't make a backup of the whole "Documents and Settings folder", as it includes alot of useless data like browser cache and temp files etc. Instead you could just make a backup of the important folders like e.g. %APPDATA% i.e. "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data" and your "My Documents" folder. You will also need to enable ImgBurn to write hidden and system files + it's also a good idea to enable showing them in Windows Explorer by selecting: "Tools>Folder Options>View (tab)>Show Hidden files and folders"(i also like to have enabled the options for showing system files and file extensions). Personally i would actually recommend a totally other solution, which i feel is alot better. First you go change the location for your "My Documents" folder over to another partition than where Windows is located e.g. if Windows is on the C:\ Partition, then use(or make) your D:\ partition for all your data i.e. your "My Documents" folder. If you are willing to do this alternative, then just say the word and i will post the directions for doing so. Then when that is done, then instead of having to manually keep backing up your %APPDATA% folder and also for always having a way to revert your system back to a previous and more healthy state, if somethig bad should ever happen like e.g. viruses or installed software that messes up the system and uninstalling doesn't help, then you should get yourself an imaging application like Acronis True Image Home(i would recommend v9 instead of the new v10 as it's somewhat buggy and bloated IMHO). With such an app, then you once in a while make a backup image of your system(i.e. Windows) partition and then if sudently your system goes bad one day, or just begins to slowfown etc. then you just "ghost" your system back to a previous state with the help of the previously made images of your system partition. Sorry for rambling on here for so long, but i just thought that i would give you some helpfull pointers and some "food for thought" of other possibilities. CU, Martin. Edit: LUK! posted his post while i was writing mine

All you need to do is listed in this fine "Build mode" guide made by cornholio7 and it even has screenshots and everything in it. You can't get it anymore "served on a plater" than this http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1779 In short, you just select the little disc icon that's located allitle under the "Destination" selection box. Then you select your folders/files of choise and select the big "Write to disc" icon. Also the "Documents and Settings" folder you are talking about is located under : "C:\Documents and Settings" and don't worry about the date of it, as it is the right one. Now for that specific folder, then i would recommend that you also enable the options "Include Hidden Files" and "Include System Files" that's located under the "Options" tab.

Yes, Gambit haven't got the link for the previous stable v1.13 on his site, but the new beta is really stable actually. If you would like to check the stable version out, then here is a link for it : http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Burrr...rrn_package.exe IMHO then Burrrn is the perfect audio CD burning partner to ImgBurn
-
As Shamus_McFartfinger said, then all filetypes are supported, but as you are propperly thinking of burning the audio files as an audio CD, then that isn't supported in ImgBurn. To write audio files as audio CDs then i would recommend Gambit's great cdrdao frontend Burrrn.

For anybody interessted : To disable the AutoRun & AutoPlay features of Windows XP, while still having Auto Insert Notification enabled, then copy/paste the following text into a new file with a ".reg" extension like e.g. "Disable AutoRun & AutoPlay.reg". Then to merge the keys into the registry, then just double-click on the reg file, and answer "Yes" to the confirmation dialog that pops op and reboot afterwards. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Disables AutoRun & AutoPlay for CD/DVD drives. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom] "AutoRun"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000b1 To revert back to enabling AutoRun & AutoPlay again, then copy/paste, save and run the following text and reboot afterwards. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Enables AutoRun & AutoPlay for CD/DVD drives. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091 Note: The often recommended suggestion for disabling AutoRun by just modifying the reg key listed underneath this note, will actually do this by disabling Auto Insert Notification, which means that discs aren't refreshed in Windows Explorer anymore, which is something that i personally find very annoying and hence, posted the above solution instead. Also, if preffering a GUI solution instead, then the same can be archived with the Windows XP PowerToy Tweak UI v2.10. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom] "AutoRun"=dword:00000000" CU, Martin.
