I've used white spirit type stuff and a cotton wool ear bud type thing before. Should be fine so long as you're careful!

It creates everything that's needed for an El-Torito disc. If it didn't, you wouldn't be able to create bootable XP discs - and you can. I don't have any real interest in linux so if additions/changes need to be made, someone will need to tell me about them. EDIT: What's the location of the isolinux.bin file within your image? I've just read that this needs to be modified with info about the boot image you select.

If it doesn't provide enough data to fill the final sector ImgBurn will zerofill it regardless. That's all the digital silence there should be though if the decoder is accurate enough. I don't really know how to do anything other than what it's doing now.

Do you have any old/spare hdd's around the place? If so, disconnect your main one and install an OS onto it with nothing but ImgBurn, then try again. If it's hardware, it'll still fail. If not, at least you know where to start troubleshooting.

You've got DMA issues. Try replacing the cable to the drive and uninstall the controller entry from the 'ide ata/atapi controllers' branch in device manager and reboot as per the DMA post in the FAQ.

If it's a home made/non-protected dvd, follow the post in the Guides forum. If it's not, ImgBurn can't help you and you'll need to seek help elsewhere.

freezes at searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices
LIGHTNING UK! replied to five.7's topic in ImgBurn Support
(Threads Merged) When you load the program (with I/O Debug Mode enabled), look at the statusbar message and make note of exactly what it says (could be multiple things) when it's taking ages to load up properly. Something is obviously not quite right on your machine somewhere, we just need to find it. What antivirus/malware/spyware programs are you running? What other burning software do you have installed? Do you have any virtual drive programs installed? Have you tried updated motherboard chipset/ide drivers as Cynthia mentioned? Have you tried uninstalling the controller entry from under the 'ide ata/atapi controllers' branch in device manager and rebooting? -
Did you do a lot of manual editing?! It shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to just drag + drop all the tracks onto it, select the session branch, hit 'Tag' and then save it.

Rewritables are never as good as write once media. As you've only got a CD burner anyway, maybe now is a good time to get a new DVD burner (even if it's an external one). You could also try running a cleaning disc on the drive.
-
Just because the disc works in his drive doesn't mean it'll work in yours. Every drive and every firmware version on that drive is different. To search for firmware you can normally use the option under 'Tools -> Drive' but rpc1.org is down at the moment. Second to that is to google the model of the drive and the word 'firmware', so for you it would be 'SOHC-5236V firmware'. This is the top result: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/S...px?DriveId=1163 From there you can get the vR$0G firmware and install it.

Burning iDVD Image File for DL DVD - Setting Layer Break
LIGHTNING UK! replied to larrys's topic in ImgBurn Support
If you burn an ISO and it complained about the LB then you probably shouldn't have burnt it. Go back to the raw files (VIDEO_TS folder containing IFO/VOB/BUP files) and make a new image in Build mode. -
1. No, never. 2. Sorry, no. I've never needed such a thing. If you think about it, you've already wasted a day or two looking for ways on how to do it. If this is just a 1 off thing, you could have roughly split the data yourself into 5 parts and burnt it by now!
-
There's nothing to say the 'brands' aren't all the same dye/mid. Update ImgBurn (that won't fix it but you should do it anyway) and check for updated firmware for the drive.

Smartburn is enabled by default on liteon drives and you should probably leave it that way. A lot of people tend to enable the hypertuning ones too.

I/O Errors " Failed to reserve track"
LIGHTNING UK! replied to Sangokushi's topic in ImgBurn Support
Ok well now that's a better error to work with. Your drive says it's having problems writing to the media. Try burning at a faster speed - i.e. 8x, 12x, 16x. After that, ditch the TDK's and get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs instead. -
Did you copy all the details about the bootimage over exactly? (they're put in the log when you read it) But really, I have no idea. I expect people on a linux forum that do this kinda thing all the time will be of more use to you than we will.

That's a slimline drive so I assume you're using a laptop. Laptop hdd's are slower than desktop ones and so defragging is even more important than usual. Basically, if buffer recovery kicks in then it means the program couldn't fill its internal buffer quickly enough and that all comes down to the rate at which it can read from the hdd. Freeing up a bit more RAM wouldn't hurt either (or maybe upgrading to 1GB?).

Imgburn opening smss.exe - is that normal?
LIGHTNING UK! replied to Andabutterpie's topic in ImgBurn Support
It's not directed at any one process, it's just scanning them all to see if they match those in the list that interfere with ImgBurn. So in answer to your original question, yes it's a natural function of the program and is nothing to worry about. -
I/O Errors " Failed to reserve track"
LIGHTNING UK! replied to Sangokushi's topic in ImgBurn Support
Hmm weird... the image size doesn't look like it should make the drive error out like that, its size is less than that of the disc. What I'd do here is go into the settings and turn off the 'DVD+R Reserve Track' option and then burn. -
Imgburn opening smss.exe - is that normal?
LIGHTNING UK! replied to Andabutterpie's topic in ImgBurn Support
It could be... go into the settings and turn off the warning about interfering programs, then see if it still does it. -
That's not what file splitting is for. ImgBurn cannot span discs, you'll probably need a real backup tool for that.
