I use ZoneAlarm and it is up to date. Last updated on the 18th. Last AV scan was the 14th. Last AS scan was the 17th. I recall seeing some people saying it's a virus but someone saying it wasn't. Now since I have it and there's indication of an infection on my system, it is probably something else. Especially since I believe I HAD it working once on this new system, but, I no longer have that partition. So, I'll start testing partitions.
-
Was anything ever decided in concrete what causes this? Because now I have it and can't get ImgBurn to work. I am pretty sure it DID work once on one of my past partitions. I will start restoring down each one and seeing if it's something I am installing that causes it. But, in the meantime, I was wondering if there ever was a concrete answer for this "problem." Thanks!

Yeah, what I found while searching indicated editing the Registry. One solution I found that does work is to install a separate application called Creative Element Power Tools. It has a place where you can change the icon of an association under Vista.
-
That only changes the application used to open the file extension with. It doesn't have an icon option.
-
Where are the former Folder Options for being able to change the icon association with a file type in Vista? Back in XP, they were in Folder Options under File Types, but Microsoft fucking changed things once again, naturally. Thanks!
-
Never mind. I discovered what it was. Has something to do with Junctions, so the files aren't really there where they say they are. Great job, Microsoft!

I just got a new computer and am in the process of installing and setting settings. However, I've run into a snag I can't resolve. I can't access Documents And Settings. I can't access it in True Image backups I've made when mounted or explored. I also cannot access several folders in ProgramData like Application Data, Desktop, Documents, Favorites, Start Menu, and Templates. I've already disabled User Account Control which resolved a multitude of my inability to access things, but, I can't seem to figure this one out. But, whenever I try to access these folders, I get the message the folder is not accessible. Access is denied. Also, these folders have a tick next to them with an arrow pointing near 1 o'clock. I used to be able to access these folders under my old XP to Vista upgraded system, but, this is a new system with Vista installed default. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

Thanks! I didn't think to try right clicking on them. I never even thought about it.

Is there a way to hide updates in Windows Updates for Vista? I have a typical Microsoft fucker error that after installing the update, Windows Update wants to list it again as an update I need. And, any attempt to download the update again returns a typical Microsoft fucker error, this time the error is just the classic unknown error. Thanks!

http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/17786.cfm "Download Wall-E for just $62,000 Now! 26 April 2009 12:01 by James "Dela" Delahunty A caller named Alberto told an incredible story to HLN money expert Clark Howard on CNN which emphasizes once again, the need to read fine print. Recently vacationing in Mexico, Alberto used his data card to download Wall-E for his nephew. When he returned home, he was shocked to receive a bill for $62,000 from his wireless carrier. The carrier lowered the cost to $17,000 when he contested it, saying that is what it cost to deliver the movie to him. While that cost for downloading a movie is totally ridiculous whatever way you look at it, Alberto did make a huge mistake by not checking and activating roaming options for voice and data plans before he went traveling. Unfortunately, this is quite a common problem. There is another class action case brewing over a $2,000 bill received by an iPhone owner after using the service in Mexico. The carriers insist that the roaming charges in other countries are extravagant and that they have to pass on the fees to the customers. So, again, remember to check your carrier's website or any information you got when you joined for roaming options before you leave."

Nice to hear Microsoft (For once. ) fixed a known error that was their fault. It's also rare.

How about in any other mode?

Past beta builds of Internet Explorer 8 had a DLL that was conflicting with DVD Shrink. Caused DVD Shrink to crash, I think. I was wondering for when the time comes and I have to have IE 8 (Windows 7) has anyone installed the final gold release of IE 8 and has DVD Shrink encountered the old conflicting DLL issue? Did Microsoft fix it? (Yeah right. ) Thanks!

While we're on the subject, if any is still following this thread is there a way to determine whether a particular DVD+R DL that's already been recorded has seamless layer breaks on it or not?

http://www.rr.com/news/news/article/1120/7...curdles_in_Colo "Woman's tofu license plate curdles in Colo. One Colorado woman's love for tofu has been judged X-rated by state officials. Kelly Coffman-Lee wanted to tell the world about her fondness for bean curd by picking certain letters for her SUV's license plate. Her suggestion for the plate: "ILVTOFU." But the Division of Motor Vehicles blocked her plan because they thought the combination of letters could be interpreted as profane. Says Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch: "We don't allow 'FU' because some people could read that as street language for sex." Officials meet periodically to ensure state plates stay free of letters that abbreviate gang slang, drug terms or obscene phrases. The 38-year-old Coffman-Lee says tofu is a staple of her family's diet because they are vegan and that the DMV misinterpreted her message."

When enabling the Seamless Layer Break, ImgBurn warns about how you need to make sure your DVD player supports them. So, I was wondering: what exactly would happen if you tried to play a seamless layer break enabled DVD in a player that does not support them? What would happen when the player reaches the layer break? Thanks!

Ye olde bug: Remote Desktop hides "Operation Completed!" message
dbminter replied to Falcon's topic in ImgBurn Bugs
Actually, now that I think about it, I had one time where I couldn't get the Completed box to come forward so I could click OK. Had to kill the ImgBurn task in Task Manager. -
Ye olde bug: Remote Desktop hides "Operation Completed!" message
dbminter replied to Falcon's topic in ImgBurn Bugs
This is something I've encountered before, but, never to the point where the box couldn't be clicked. In fact, when ImgBurn is in the background, that box seems to more often than not become under the rest of the ImgBurn window. But, as was said, I never brought it up since I was relatively certain it was an API thing and nothing could be done about it. I don't have Remote Desktop enabled so I've never encountered where it can't be clicked. -
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/17254.cfm "Man, dead since 1559, receives TV bill It appears that Adam Ries, a German mathematician deceased as of 1559, has received a bill from the GEZ broadcast fee collection office demanding that the man pay his "long-overdue" TV licensing fees. The bill was sent to the man's former address, which is now a club set up in honor of the algebra expert. "We received a letter saying 'To Mr Adam Ries' on it, with the request to pay his television and radio fees," said Annegret Muench, who is now president of the club. Muench, after seeing the letter, returned the letter with a note attached explaining that Ries had died 450 years earlier, while especially noting that TV had not been invented at that time. Despite her letter, the collection office sent another reminder two weeks later. The GEZ was in the news last year for a similar incident in which Friedrich Schiller, a poet who died in 1805, was sent a bill asking him to declare "all radios and televisions in his home and pay the corresponding fees."" They tried to collect for Friedrich Schiller? The man who penned the Ode To Joy?!

I need some recommendations for AV software. Freebie prefered but I'll check out any lead. I need a scanner that is very similar to ZoneAlarm's, meaning I can configure it to let me decided what I want done with a positive scan. No auto delete crap, unless I set it to auto delete the file. I'd prefer a quarantine option or something where I can undo a delete if it turns out to be a false positive. Thanks!

Problems with Burining Verbatim DD+R DL Singapore Dual Layers
dbminter replied to Sherif's topic in ImgBurn Support
My problem was the NEC drive I was using apparently. It had been writing to them then stopped writing them successfully, bombing out in the attempt to verify the data. I just replaced my NEC with a later NEC (7200) and the problem was fixed. -
I used to live in Phoenix, Arizona, so, I, too, know what it's like to get 120 degree temperatures.

I thought London got its fair share of snow. But, I don't live there. I'm just going by works like A Christmas Carol for my perspective.
