Why? Did the other thread go... tits up?

Well, you've come to the right source. I consider myself the world's unofficial expert on Frankenstein. Frankenstein had no assistant in the original novel. He had to do the job on his own for obvious reasons. In Universal's first Frankenstein movie, Frankenstein had a hunched over assistant named Fritz. He even had a cane. Fritz was played by Dwight Frye who would, interestingly enough, return in the sequel, Bride Of Frankenstein, as Dr. Proetorius's assistant. Ygor was a shepherd who the villagers attempted to hang and broke his neck. But, he survived and per the usual customs with hanging, if the victim survives he is "cleared" of his crimes; it is viewed as the will of god. Ygor was played Bela Lugosi and would return in the sequel to Son Of Frankenstein, The Ghost Of Frankenstein. In that film, he manages to trick both the Monster and a surgeon (Played by Lionel Atwill who was in every one of Universal's original Frankenstein cycle except for the first picture.) into putting his brain into the monster's body. So, interestingly enough, Bela Lugosi ends up playing the monster in the sequel, Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man, where Lon Chaney, Jr. who had played the monster in Ghost, appears as Larry Talbot. So, what happened was a case similar to how public conception has equated the name of Frankenstein with his monster. That though the creature never had a name, people call it Frankenstein even though that's the name of its creator. A similar situation has occurred with Igor. Because there was a hunched over assistant in the Frankenstein movie, and Ygor was assisting the son of Frankenstein in the movie of the same name, and Ygor had a hunch deformity, people have equated Fritz with Ygor and both together. Since most people's interpretation of Frankenstein comes from the Universal movies, they have it printed in their memory that Frankenstein had an assistant named Igor. And, in popular culture, the word Igor has come to have that connotation. When you say Igor, you immediately think of someone's hunched over slave, taking orders from a mad scientist.

Ah, but, Igor (Originally Ygor.) had nothing to do with Dracula. Ygor first appeared in Son Of Frankenstein. The closest thing Dracula would have had to Ygor is Renfield.
-
Ah, okay. You had a good reason. Now, I finally know what it was.
-
Ah, THAT explains the strange garbled nonsense that occurred in the recording I heard!
-
What was her name originally in the first broadcast of the radio play?
-
Oh, I thought it was being said he was a sparrow.

Of course, the third worst in the universe.

Personally, I think it's a slippery slope. I, for one, can't stand it when anyone smokes. I don't want anyone smoking near me. But, guess what? There's no such thing as a non-smoking area. When someone smokes, everyone is, unless they do it outside. The irony is smokers KNOW it's annoying because they annoy themselves and each other. But, they're hooked and need their fix. So, what they basically say is to Hell with everyone else. As far as second hand smoke goes, it's a gray area, like most things. There is evidence to support that it causes damage just as much as there's not enough evidence to support the opposite claims that it kills you. But, how CAN it be healthy? If we were meant to breathe in smoke, we'd have been created with methane filters. And, it's easy to create tobacco/nicotine dispersion systems. BUT, the bottom line is that would eat into the profits, when it's far easier to just wrap it up in paper derivatives and ignite it. So, personally, I'm all for smoking bans. BUT, legally, how can I really support it? I believe people should have the right to smoke if they want to, but, what about those of us who don't like it? The smokers won't congregate into sealed rooms or outside, and businesses won't install sealed rooms and filter systems because it eats into the profits. The best thing said here, though, was the comment that people SHOULD be smart enough to NOT smoke in front of the kids. As I said, it's nowhere near healthy, so, why do it in that instance?

Actually, I didn't get the joke either from just reading it. But, it was easy to figure out for obvious reasons.

Technically, the microwave principle was discovered when Percy Spencer discovered his melting peanut candy bar was caused by a magnetron. However, he was using it in conjunction with active radar.

The RW logo is the DVD+RW Alliance Logo. It was created entirely as a means to not pay for the DVD Logo license. Of course, if they made a few sheckles by charging to use THEIR logo, so be it. Now, here's ironic thing. Remember the introduction of DVD? It was touted, at first, because they had taken active steps to produce ONE format, to purposefully avoid the Beta VS. VHS war. So, after DVD-R comes out, some groups get together to collude to charge extra for no real reason. Save a pittance but charge even MORE than they save to come out ahead. And, in the end, the few advantages + offers is not worth it in terms of compatibility with players. So, yes, the RW Logo is applied to both DVD+R and DVD+RW discs.

What I find strange about it is it's a government place... yet, they can still smoke in their own offices? It's an unfortunate law of physics brought into play about smoking: regardless of where you smoke, unless it's outside of the building, there is NO non-smoking area.

Believe it or not... I still have EZ Media Creator 7's Creator Classic installed for burning MP3 CD's. Other than that, Nero 7 for some other rudimentary CD functions that ImgBurn doesn't handle. And, ImgBurn. I also have Alcohol for burning multi-track images.

Well, after chatting with Roadrunner tech support, they concluded the same as I had and I asked if Big Finish had somehow added me to some kind of blocking list. I got a quick reply, in under 24 hours, saying my IP had been added to their bogon list, for whatever reason. They cleared it up and I can now safely resume perusing their site My thanks again to all who checked on this for me that they could still access it.
-
Well, I guess it's time for live tech support chat to see what's going on. Because, it's been this way since before Christmas, on both my Adelphia and RoadRunner accounts. But, the clincher is how I restored a virgin, factory partition and it still does it. That's a rather personal question, sir! They grow up so fast... but, still, that's something that should be kept in the family! No, you're not because you were either lazy or forgetful or both. Anyway, I had an order for the larger one through Diamond. Here, Previews is the main comic shop catalog. Occasionally, they offer some import items, including the large Cyberman. However, it was supposed to ship last month, and just last week was listed as a reorder. So, who knows? Thus, to make sure I got at least something, the Christmas Cyberman was pushed up to my birthday gift and the birthday Cyberman is now for Christmas.
-
Hey, I now know that the new Cybermen action figures are damn cool! I got tired of waiting for lfc to post pictures. Someone got one for me as a Christmas gift! It only just arrived, though, because of the overseas shipping at X-mas. (BTW, digi, your Cyber-post from overseas also arrived. ) There is a LOT of articulation and details on this thing! Far more than I expected. 180 degree ball joint neck. Ball jointed shoulders, wrists, waist, hips, and ankles. Jointed elbows and knees. This is a much better figure than Dapol's one from, when, 1989?
-
Well, fuck... I restored an entire virgin factory partition, only installing firewall/AV software, and it still doesn't load. Would someone check bigfinish.com for me again, just to be sure it's actually up and running?
-
Haven't we seen some of these before?
-
I was going to say. Got one? That site loads fine.
-
I knew it was, I just needed verification. FUCK! I knew it... Time to start the restores, I suppose. It's something in my web settings, apparently. Because it's blocked now by both Firefox and IE. It was working fine up until just before Christmas. I've checked the hosts file and it's not blocked there. So, any idea what might be the problem? Firefox returns this: Problem loading page The connection has timed out The server at www.bigfinish.com is taking too long to respond. No other sites I know of are doing this to me. Any ideas? No, probably not. Thanks!
-
I didn't think to get any. Anyway, it always occurs when trying to start ImgBurn. The blue text logo comes up and then the error dialog. Sometimes, ImgBurn.exe will "crash" with a common Windows dialog that says it crashed, but, not always. I'll try to remember to screen shot it the next time it happens.

Could some of you do me favor? The Big Finish site has been down for me for over a week. Could someone check bigfinish.com and verify this or tell me if it's up or not? Thanks!

What exactly is Error Code 14? When it says there is not enough storage to complete the operation, what memory are we talking about here? System Resources? Error Code 14 is easily the most common error I get and the only way I've gotten around it is to close something that is open. So, I was wondering, LUK, what are the specifics on the memory referenced by error code 14? How can I free more of this memory? I've already disabled as many services, things in MSCONFIG, etc. that aren't needed, already. Thanks!
