the dvd rw you used from media id is very good quality it also had the best chance of playing as book type was set to dvd-rom.
Try some good quality dvd-r burned at 4x, if that fails time to get a cheap dvd player that plays copies as some of the older branded big named players like sony, lg etc refuse to play backups.
-
I will if I open the other 40 and they are the same, the packaging on the other 40 look ok, however the other 20 pack , the locks on cake box were smashed etc.
Scan was ok maybe take of 8% as that liteon drive does not do jitter so Quality score of 91% is good enough for me.
edit also seems to burn better on liteon 1635 if burnt at 4x ...the 2.4 burns are still into 97 98 % though

go to build mode / options

@ken if the 21b is official nec firmware and he has flashed it to packard bell, then the checksum to see what drive is, is whats stopping him, as official is saying no compatible drive found or words similar.
edit as in previous post, don't think you flashed to packrd bell.
but something is making your drive not allow you to revert back to where you were
-
you have updated it to being a packard bell, the 2.58 should be the only other firmware you can use for that drive now, you will need to use an unofficial flasher now.
not sure about nec drives but having a look around for some more info on crossflashing etc.
you may be able to use this to go to 21a then go back to try 21b back to where you started

edit don't think you have gone upto packard bell now after having another look, however if yur still saying it will not let you upgrade firmware, they way you tried then give the firmware i listed ago.

An update the first pack of 20 us verbs are quite scratched seems to be due to damage of cake box tbh reminds me of my orders from ukdvdr.
Then benq dc dw 1670 is not very good at burning to these.
My liteon 160P6S which was when i got it a DRW-6S160P that i flashed to be a 160P6S BUT really it's a SONY DW-Q120A --- LOL (wish they would stop doing this)
anyway the drive writes to verbs fine just now cannot scan them as good as it should.
I have now started to not take the chance and burn using my liteon 1635s which used to be a philips spd 2400
and scanned them with same drive and it's a lot better
Scan below, disc wrote @4.1x and scanned with same writer a liteon 1635s firmware YSOZ
So these discs are fine apart from the 8-14 that are scratched

I just downloaded it 2 weeks ago.
But where from ?
-
on which operating system ?
-
check your ide cable connection to motherboard and back of drive, replace ide cable if you have a spare use an 80 wire one if you have one.
If your connected via usb/or firewire check those cables as well.
In fact check all ide cables to all other hardware at same time.
If after checking all cables and making sure they are connected tight enough etc.
check to make sure you have installed the chipset drivers that came with motherboard for the ide side of things.

yeah i don't think mine support it in cd speed so looking to get another couple of burners for the verbs i got from states as it seems my new benq 1670 is shit at dual layer and also the 160 is hit and miss with them (better with my uk verbs) my 1635s seems ok on both US and UK verbs (the 160 used to be fantastic) i updated the posts i made in the pinned verb topic with a scan from the benq 1670 using the verbs from US
-
yep, have a look at the thread about philips/liteon/benq etc, it may do jitter to a degree but cannot scan anything with it.
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=2986&hl=
let me know if the images come up as the last 2 will not display on my computer due to packet loss
-
yeah liteon is supposed to, i got 4x 1635s the 1606ps and new benq 1670 none of them do jitter.
-
yeah the 7X versions do ram and is indeed Sony Nec venture
the 5x do not have ram capability so may do the kinda scan i require. need to look into it further
-
LUK or anyone that wants to chip in, What is you latest Writer you rate the highest for burning/scanning/ must have jitter and +r to -rom.
I am looking at the latest NEC range but i notice they all are DVD-RAM, so i rightly or wrongly am concluding that these will be using panasonic chipset, thereby not having ability to do quality scans etc.
was looking for nec\ 4550 after seeing lfc's drive seems nowhere has them, i lost interest in nec after getting 3540 i think i gave it away hated the silver looked like cheap plastic.
cheers

i never use them, when i had to clean lens of anything i would always take it apart and use lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
I have always been careful with the disc's i put in any drive i own, i always examine them for grease, fingerprints and clean them b4 inserting them into any hardware i have.
Was told years ago by engineer not to use CD cleaners (the disc kind as they are abrasive) in my at the time 450 quid multi changer Cd player and single player, maybe the CD cleaners now are more appropriate to use.
it also is verifying all images written and can read any disc iso i have at great speed. strange
busy wrting another of the verbs from US in liteon 1635s now
written/scanned on 1635s
then scanned on what seems to be a knackered or in need of cleaning 160p6s
These are the verbs from US, so they appear to be ok, though tbh the first pack of 20 i opened have scratches on them and seem to be not as well made as the /uk verbs i have, have not opened the other 2 packs of 20 yet
ANOTHER EDIT
Not sure what to think of this 1st packet of verbs now just wrote one in my brand new benq dw1670 then scanned it in liteon 1635s and it's terrible, cannot be all my writers/readers, unless of course my new benq hates, or rather the firmware is not very good for dual layer burning /2nd layer it falls apart 1st layer is stunning 99.10 % saying as the liteon 1635s was scanning fine before
-
It seemed to be getting worse for my uk verbs with 160P6S drive
this was scanned in same drive as it was wrote in as were the previous 4 pics.
This is what the same disc scanned like in one of my other liteon drives
would it seem to anyone else that the reading function of 160P6s has problems now.
-
my 2nd burn
however i burned one of my /uk verbs straight after
and i am not at all pleased with that one either, higher quality scan but still not quite right or like it used to be, just about to burn another using benq DW1670
-
-
I eventually managed to tracked down i think the last firmware for your drive thanks to ala42.
so i uploaded it to my rapidshare folders.
password will be ascii1967
edit 171F was the last but hey close enough
-
the official one was fine, cannot remember why i choose PV9N, i know as soon as i updated to it though i burn't verb and checked for quality and 98.78% or higher so it aint that

yeah they verify ok.
don't usually bother decided to do it for these few, never had a dvd not verify. apart from about 15 of 400-500 discs i bought about 3-4 years ago that have infosmart mid code, needless to say i still have about 400-485 of these left and are good for absolutely FA
