  1. Seagates are pretty much all I use. Got a couple of Maxtors and W/Digital drives around the place but I like Seagates for their reliability and the fact that they run cooler than other drives (which is why they're almost always used in modded XBoxes and Playstations). Anything that can help keep the temperature down inside the box has gotta be a good thing.
  2. LOL!! Too much tv, DB.
  3. One slip of the tongue and he could be in deep shit.
  4. Or do this instead
  5. Basically, yes - but ImgTool is a lot faster as it just converts raw video files without attempting to compress them. It can also output the created ISO image directly (automatically) to ImgBurn for burning.

I use 3 browsers. Mozilla just for this forum. IE for reading news (because it's the only fukcing browser that works with AdShield). Opera for everything else because of it's superfast navigation. *shrug*
  7. Just use DVD Shrink. It can load ISO images.
  8. Short history lesson: Up until about 18 months or 2 years ago, DVD Shrink (a great piece of software btw), was unable to create ISO (disk) images that could be burned using Nero or DVD Decrypter or whatever. A fella by the name of CouJo had created a program that converts DVD files (.VOBS, .IFOS etc) into a format that burning programs could recognise. He called it ImgTool. What it does is it grabs the contents of a VIDEO_TS folder and converts the files to an ISO image. He made two (I think) versions. One is called ImgTool Burn and the other is called ImgTool Classic. ImgTool Burn uses Nero to burn disks and as most of us around here dislike Nero, we don't use it. ImgTool Classic used to use DVD Decrypter to burn disks. It has since been updated to use Lightning_UKs program, ImgBurn, instead. So..... basically..... Once you have your video files on your HD, create a VIDEO_TS folder somewhere and move your VOBs and IFO files into it. (If you haven't got a decent file manager like Turbo Navigator, GET ONE. It makes life soooo much easier). Once you've done that, all you have to do now is tell ImgTool where ImgBurn is located on your computer and then point ImgTool Classic at the VIDEO_TS folder and tell it to start work. Clear as mud, huh?
  9. You're right again, LFC. VSO DivxtoDVD does have this function.
  10. Got a download link handy? I found this on the kewlbox.com website. http://www.kewlbox.com/corp/promise.cfm
  11. Download "ImgTool CLASSIC" from www.coujo.de That's ImgTool CLASSIC
  12. Or delete your images automatically once they've been burned to disk.
  13. You could promise the sysadmin (Lightning_UK!) copious amounts of beer and plead that he change it for you. Perhaps even mentioning what a great program ImgBurn is just to get on his good side.
  14. Given the recent press regarding rootkits and how dangerous they can be, (Google "Sony rootkit" for more info), I found this free rootkit scanner over at the F-Secure site. (A great site btw). The scanner is called Blacklight and is a standalone file of about 600k. Be quick if you want to grab it as it expires January 1st, 2006. http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/

http://software.silicon.com/security/0,390...39154942,00.htm DoS attack risk for Firefox 1.5 users Exploit goes public... By Dawn Kawamoto Published: Friday 9 December 2005 Exploit code for the latest version of open-source browser Firefox was published on Wednesday, potentially putting users at risk of a denial of service (DoS) attack. The exploit code takes advantage of a bug in the recently released Firefox 1.5, running on Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Firefox, which initially debuted more than a year ago, has moved swiftly to capture eight per cent of the browser market. The latest Firefox flaw exists in the history.dat file, which stores information from websites users have visited with the Firefox 1.5 browser, according to a posting on the Internet Storm Center, which monitors online threats. According to the posting: "If the topic of a page is crafted to be long enough, it will crash the browser each time it is started after going to such a page. Once this happens, Firefox will be unable to be started until you erase the history.dat file manually." In testing Firefox 1.5 without a system running McAfee security software, the Firefox 1.5 browser would stall and not respond to a user's mouse, said Johannes Ullrich, chief research officer for the Sans Institute, which runs the Internet Storm Center. Ullrich said: "Users have to kill out of the browser and start over again. This stalled browser creates a DoS condition." Packet Storm, the security group that initially published the proof-of-concept exploit code, noted that in addition to the potential DoS attack that could follow a buffer overflow, systems may also be subject to a malicious execution of code. Ullrich, however, said while the potential may exist, it has not been proven either way that malicious code could be executed. The Mozilla Foundation, which released Firefox, said it was not able to confirm the browser would crash or be at risk of a DoS attack, after visiting certain websites. And Mozilla has not received any reports from users of such a problem, said Mike Schroepfer, vice president of engineering for Mozilla Corp. He added that Firefox 1.5 can be sluggish on its next start-up, due to a bug in the history.dat but that this is not a security problem. Schroepfer said: "We have gotten no independent verification that it crashes [Firefox] but there have been a lot of attempts to try." Dawn Kawamoto writes for CNET News.com
  16. An ImgBurn logfile would help a lot. Here's an old one of mine You could also try some different software to convert your video files to an ISO image such as DVD Shrink ( www.dvdshrink.org ) and ImgTool CLASSIC ( www.coujo.de )
  17. Too much beer, I think.
  18. Where are you at? I'm in Underwood.
  19. Pretty much the worst storm I've ever seen. Never seen anything like it. I've never seen the entire sky light up at once before. Impossible to describe. I didn't lose any PCs this time which was lucky.
  20. Time flies, huh? Same here. Personally, I'm curious why the multitude of other programs available to rip DVDs or music CDs are still allowed to be sold. For example..... http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=co...nG=Search&meta= ..... reveals 42.5 million hits, including many commercial copiers. I suspect this years christmas pissup by a certain DVD protection syndicate will be rife with mutual admiration ("You did a superb job this year, my fellow executives,, for stopping the plague that is DVD piracy. Our shareholders are as nervous as a bunch of Arabs playing a game of "Pass the Parcel" at a Muslim birthday party but we'll tell them that everything is fine"). As one would expect, chronic group masturbation will be part of this years christmas festivities. One can only hope that the aforementioned festivities are enjoyed to the degree that foreheads will implode. <steps off soapbox>

For anyone who loves brute horsepower (let's face it, who doesn't) I found this clip while lazily exploring the net. It's about 16megs in size. Adjusting the brightness up helps alot. Enjoy. http://tractorpull.calpoly.edu/video/tulare04/MOV00276-1.MPG
  22. You're on acreage? A byproduct of my job. (I load and despatch trucks for a living and have to know distances and times). *shrug*
  23. Mackay... A leisurely 3 hour drive up the road from Rocky. Have you got your own coconut tree?
  24. Where are you, mate? Somewhere near Rocky? (Rockhampton for you non-Aus type people).
  25. It's hard to believe it's 6 months since the old forum went belly up. Harder to believe that we were invited back.
