seem pretty awful actually. lots of firmware fixes needed.
  3. That MB stuff was only on that one 'not enough disc space' dialog box db. As discs don't work in MB, it's pointless adding it everywhere and I won't do it Not only that, it would mess up my gui.
  4. It's best to eject + reinsert if that happens.
  5. Those boxes on the write / verify screens (during the actual burn / verify process) are known as checkboxes. So when there is a tick in them, they're said to be 'checked'. The options in the settings tell the program to 'check' them by default (or not to). The DVD+R option is just user preference. Sometimes one will work better with odd drives that the other. 99.9% of the time, OFF is fine. For DVD-RAM, fastwrite kinda disables the DVDRAM standard 'Write + Verify' technique so that it just performs the 'Write' part. That speeds up the burn process. Some dvdram burner or ok with that, others may produce sub-standard discs. Using the programs builtin verify feature is a VERY good idea if FastWrite is enabled - at least until your know your drive can burn properly. DVD+RW must register as 'Formatted: Yes' in the info panel on the right. If it does not, the program will perform a full format so that it does. After that, you won't have to do it again and as DVD+RW supports direct overwrite, it'll start burning immediatly. Discovery mode is used purely for testing discs. It doesn't write 'real' data to the disc, just a bunch of zeros. If you look in the 'drives and media' forum you'll see that is what we've been using. It allows you to burn any amount of data to the disc you choose. So you can test overburning, or just ensure that every sector on the disc is written to - as is useful when looking at media quality. No other burning software does that, that's why you've not seen the term before.
  6. You can't use DVD-R DL if you need to position the layerbreak - just forget about using them! Some of the newer plextor (with original firmware) don't allow for unauthorised programs to issue booktype setting commands. I believe the latest firmwares DO allow for it again, so maybe there is an update you're missing.
  7. As lfc said, maybe your previous images had been ok. There's a 1 in 16 chance they would be! Also, previous images might not have warned you about this problem and just proceeded to burn via a slightly different method - and one that's NOT idea. The newer versions try to get you a better quality burnt disc and warn you about potential problems.
  8. Maybe you've got a duff drive.... that or the discs aren't quite what they should be. You've got better PIF readings on the BenQ, it's just a shame about PIE's. Oh and you need to update your DVDInfoPro too.
  9. My mistake pain man, I don't think I twigged that it was you replying and not dbminter - is was his thread after all! I only mentioned the beta team stuff because I though it was db
  10. This is one of those things I really couldn't please everyone with. In the end, I made the decision that if the program is about to close (i.e. queue is empty and program is set to close when everything is 'done'), it won't display any 'Finished!' type messages or play the sounds. This request might make it into the 1.4.0.0 version but it won't be in 1.3.0.0. It will of course be optional so as not to annoy people who prefer the silence.
  11. Looks like you're just suffering from the windows caching problem. Hopefully the 1.3.0.0 version will be ok for you when I release it.
  12. It should be out already.... once I've got my head together (out on the beers lastnight!), I'll update the website and post it up.
  13. This has already been found and fixed. Cheers anyway Will be available as of 1.3.0.0
  14. I too am not at all convinced about this hyperthreading line that they're spinning you. Sounds like utter nonsense to me! I don't have a PX-760 yet but if you want to compare PIPO scans when I do, I'd be more than happy to help. Just so we can see what's happening right now, could you post a few up of the various media types? Also, a copy of the Write Speed Graphs would come in handy. I wonder if the problem areas on the disc fall inline with where WOPC kicks in etc.
  15. No db, this is the link I would normally use to get stuff for my board. That other one isn't right for mine - but maybe it is for yours?! http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df...44&submit=Go%21 As you can see, the software it offers is well out of date now. Only thing it's good for is the bios updates - and I doubt there will be anymore of those after P34 anyway! A good way to get all devices to install using those newer drivers / inf files is to remove the one under the 'System devices' branch that says 'PCI bus'.
  16. Oops yeah sorry I figured I'd told you guys (the beta team) about them before and that I didn't need to say that bit again They're available from http://www.t10.org
  17. Ignore the message from 1.2.0.0 - even with layer jump recording you still can't set the layer break nicely and burn in the same style as dvd+r dl. When I first wrote that text, I was under the impression layer jump recording was something different to what I now know it to be. dvd-r dl are totally useless for anything that needs you to position the layer break - i.e. any movie stuff! So as the others have said, ditch the -r and buy +r instead.
  18. Yeah major geeks is a good one for up-to-date drivers. My download of the chipset driver did actually come from the Intel site. Normally I'd go to support -> downloads -> Chipsets -> inf driver. That only gets you 1006, not 1007. To get 1007, you have to go to support -> downloads -> desktop boards -> 975x -> 975x. Then you'll find the 1007 driver listed on that page. or... as a direct link ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/75...2.2.1007_PV.exe
  19. It simply writes whatever is in the rest of the device buffer. The sync cache command is typically taken to mean - "right, that's it, I've finished sending you data now", and so that's when the drive performs the leadout stuff. I'm sure the MMC specs will tell you more if you want to read about it. Sync Cache is an actual command listed within that spec. The exact process performed when 'Sync Cache' is issued seems to vary depending on the type of media you're burning to.
  20. dvdremake might be able to do it. I'm pretty sure it can split cells so maybe it can also split chapters.
  21. indeed, imgburn is not a unicode program. It may work if you have the correct settings in 'regional and language options' within control panel for apps that aren't unicode.
  22. Try a full erase on its own before attempting to write anything to the disc. See if it then also gets stuck. Unfortunatly, if any I/O gets stuck, the very nature of SPTI means that all communication stops - that's just how windows seems to work. As soon as the drive responds again, ImgBurn will kick back into action. It's just sitting there waiting patiently for it You could try looking for a chipset/ide/ata driver update, that may help fix the problem.
  23. mmmmmmmmmmmmm cakes..... Sure, I left them on the table. Didn't you see them?
  24. I'm 99.999999999999999999999% sure ImgBurn has nothing to do with PowerDVD 3 hanging either! With ImgBurn open, MAYBE it could be doing things that PowerDVD 3 can't cope with (it is old after all). With it closed, I'm 100% sure ImgBurn isn't doing anything that could possibly mess with it.
  25. Ahhhh thanks everyone
