The drive reported a 'Write Error', so yeah, it had some issue with writing to the disc. If you've burnt a few of them without any problem then let's assume it was a bad disc. If you've had more failures than anything else, consider switching to different discs (or buy a drive that can burn those a bit better). You have the option of burning at 4x instead of 'MAX' (6x). That may or may not help you get a better quality burn from the drive/firmware/media combo you're using.

Who knows?! Maybe? It could also have just been a 1 off (unless it's happened multiple times?). The MKM-003-00 discs I've tested recently have been a lot better than the MKM-001-00 ones.

I can't really help you beyond what I've already told you. Do you know for a fact that it can read CD-RW discs? Personally, I'd try with top quality 'Taiyo Yuden' CD-R. It burnt and verified fine, so my job here is done. Try and find a forum that deals with Sega CD stuff. Your version of ImgBurn is very out of date btw.

Nope, it's nothing to do with ImgBurn. Your drive/firmware/media combo messed up. When it comes to burning, there's outright success / failure and an unlimited number of 'quality' levels. So whilst 4x might have given you mostly successful burns on those cheapo 'CMC MAG-M01-00' discs (the brand name stamped on them doesn't matter), the quality of said burns (how readable the disc is) could be really bad/low. When the quality drops too low (too many low level errors on the disc that the drive can't correct), you'll get proper read errors during the verify phase... which is what you got in Log 1.

Log 1: The drive must have done a bad job of burning the disc as it was unable to read back what it had just written. Try burning at 8x instead of 4x, the drive may do a better job at that speed. If you continue to get bad burns, consider buying some better discs. Log 2: It burnt and verified ok... so what's the actual problem with that one?

Those logs don't show you using a CUE file, they show you just burning the ISO. If you want a mixed mode disc (data and then audio), you'll never get one by burning an ISO file. Instead of double clicking on the ISO from within the 7zip window, actually extract the archive file to a folder somewhere and then double click on the CUE file in that folder.

Only FHT and Smartburn need to be enabled, leave the rest disabled. 2.4x isn't an option/possible on MKM-003-00, just set it at 4x.

You need to enable the drive's 'Force HyperTuning' option. Oh and put the layer break option back on 'Calculate Optimal'. It reads the correct value from the .dvd file.

That isn't going to be causing the problem. If you want to remove it anyway (programs that use it may stop working), visit Duplex Secure's website and download the installer. When you run it, you'll be given the option to uninstall (rather than install!). http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads btw, you're formatting with spare areas enabled (which enables hardware defect management). As such, you won't have the full capacity of the disc available to you and it'll burn slower due to the automatic write verification.

I wouldn't trust that burn at all. Do a full erase on the disc and try again. You should verify your burns too. I bet it would have picked up on several errors on that burn. There's obviously some issue with that disc (or 'those' discs if you've tried a few) and the drive you've got or you wouldn't have created this thread on the Nero forums. http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showtopic=13774

You could try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc (or manually if you're feeling brave) but I've no idea if it'll do any good or not. If the drive still works with CD Audio discs then it either just has a problem with the CD-R you've purchased or it's gone off CD-R altogether - in which case you'll need a new drive.

Right so when you put a blank CD in it stays saying 'medium not present' in the status bar yeah? Keep an eye on that bar once you've put the disc in, it should say something else for a while before either being ready or not ready. What happens if you put an original CD in the drive? (i.e. a music cd) Blank DVDs still work fine yeah? Do you have any other blank CDs you can try in it? a CD-RW maybe?

That looked ok until the speed dropped off. Without scanning the discs (Disc Quality / PIPO scan), it's hard to say why it might be doing that. It's the kind of thing you'd expect a drive to do on low quality media that it's burning too quickly... not on decent stuff it's only burning at 8x. Maybe the drive has developed a fault if this is also happening on other discs?
