  1. It's pretty simple really, ImgBurn is a burning tool, DVD Decrypter was a dvd ripping tool. So you're comparing apples with oranges. ImgBurn is NOT designed to rip DVD's - hence why it's failing.
  2. That drive just might not support bitsetting? In any case, you don't have to mess with it manually in 2.3.2.0, it's automatic for Samsung and LG drives.
  3. Laptop drives are normally pretty rubbish to be honest and they get dirty quickly because the laser is exposed. Try the RB02 firmware update first, then if that doesn't work, try cleaning the laser. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss...ocid=MIGR-63596 Failing that, consider investing in an external burner.
  4. In build mode, goto the 'Advanced' tab, then the 'Bootable' one. Point it to the floppy disc image and tell it to emulate the 1.44 FDD. Add your other files to the 'Source' box (back on the left side of the main window) and then burn. So long as the floppy image loads cdrom drivers you'll have the ability to access the files you added to the 'source' window once you've booted from the bootable cd. If you don't load cdrom drivers you'll only be able to access whatever was in that 1.44mb floppy image. If you have a floppy disk you want to make an image of, ImgBurn can do that too, just use the 'Create Boot Image' bit at the bottom of the 'Bottable' tab.
  5. If it's no problem to return it, return it. Even if the 2nd one you have doesn't work, you can still return that and then go for something totally different.
  6. Your drive bombed out in a pretty bad way and reset itself. If you had the option of retrying, that might have worked? It's an old drive now an so probably doesn't follow the version of MMC specs that ImgBurn is programmed around. Perhaps now would be a good time to think about getting a modern DVD burner?!
  7. Attempt to burn it again, but this time press the F8 key before you hit the 'Write' button. By doing that, you'll get loads more stuff in the log. Once it's errored out and you've clicked 'ok' to terminate the burn operation, press F8 again to disable I/O debug mode. Then, SAVE the log as a file and upload the file.
  8. As the laser on laptop drives is very exposed, have you tried cleaning it?
  9. There's nothing I can do I'm afraid, this is just some issue with your setup. DMA errors are normally always corrected by replacing the IDE cable to the drive with a decent/new 80 wire one and uninstalling + reinstalling the IDE controller in device manager. With a USB drive, it's not going to be as simple as that. The USB part doesn't have DMA issues so I can only assume it's something inside the enclosure (i.e. between the usb -> ide chip and the drive itself). My advice....take the drive back and get a different one - TOTALLY different.
  10. I'm seeing lots of these errors... Logical Unit Communication CRC Error (ULTRA-DMA/32) To be honest, I've never seen those from USB drives! You might want to double check your cables (and that they're seated properly). I assume it's a real external drive rather than one you've put together yourself? Oh and don't forget to disable I/O debug mode again. It slows things down a lot.
  11. http://www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm I used the HP util to make mine bootable. Once it's bootable and the basic command.com etc progras have been added by the util, you can go ahead and edit config.sys and autoexec.bat until your heart is content. Personally I just use mine for bios/dos based firmware updates so I use a very basic setup.
  12. ok, I'll order one now and fix whatever needs fixing tomorrow. If I get it working straight off, I won't be happy!
  13. You were trying to change the booktype on DVD+RW? That's what that 'Current Media (For DVD+RW Media)' one is for. What about the others, don't they work?
  14. If the drive won't read any discs, it's probably broken or very dirty.
  15. Might I suggest you get a cheapo 512mb mem stick for this kinda thing? It's sooooooooooo much easier. Simply make it bootable and then copy files to it as you would do any other drive via explorer.
  16. lol yeah, it won't work in ANY player if you burn with 'Test Mode' enabled - there won't be anything on the disc
  17. You're gonna need to enable I/O debug mode (press the F8 key) AND THEN start a burn so I can see why the command keeps failing. If you've enabled it correctly you should see loads more stuff going into the log window (which you should keep open!). Upload the new log when it's ready. Thanks.
  18. I've read that it uses the mediatek chipset so chances are that it'll use the same commands the liteon does.
  19. donta and I both have one each, that's enough for now! We probably make up 10% of the poeple in the UK that have one
  20. Many thanks for the donation
  21. Oh right, well obviously the advanced features are tied to the OEMs. The program doesn't limit the use of the commands, it's down to you to select the right tab. The 'brand' of the drive doesn't come into it. For instance, even though the tab says 'LITE-ON', the commands will still work just fine on a Sony (re)branded drive. For anything that's got an 'automatic' bit associated with it (i.e. 'auto change book type'), you can click the 'Advanced' button and add your drives device ID to the list for the correct OEM if it's not supported straight off.
  22. Well then they'd either start to use their own bitsetting commands or would use an existing command set. I wouldn't know which one until I have one of their new drives in my hand. Sorry, I don't really understand what you mean / are getting at. ImgBurn issues commands set out in the MCC spec to see what a drive can/can't do. There's nothing hardcoded.
  23. No, not in the slightest. Perhaps you're confusing ImgBurn with it's deceased brother, DVD Decrypter?
  24. Is that a Dell laptop? Try the 103D firmware update. http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downl...p;fileid=191376 Assuming they're real/proper Taiyo Yuden TYG02 (i.e. not the cheapo ones datasafe brands), you can't get much better in terms of discs.
  25. They all use a certain type/format command. You just need to find out which one yours uses. If the 810 is really a pioneer, you can't do anything with with the booktype stuff. If it's a liteon, just go into the booktype page and use the liteon tab. ImgBurn is it's own program and is nothing at all to do with Nero. There is no 'drive database' as the software doesn't need one.
