just an observation you burned OK after using the lens cleaner maybe you could try using it again and if you have a can of dry compressed air blow out the inside of the drive .I have the same burner and its been great loads of burns on it the power calibration error is the drive not being able to set the laser power to burn to a blank . Its a process of elimination to find out whats wrong drive or media ,TY's have been counterfieted, if you could get a hold of some Verbs and try with them it might help Best Buy usually had 25 for around $10 Office Depot carries them but you have to hunt around they aren't always with the rest of the media . Like LUK says drives are dirt cheap these days if you do get another NEC beware of the 18X drive its not a true NEC but a drive that was built in a joint deal with Sony

first thing to do is update your firmware the newest is 2.1B yours is old

the concern with those CMC MAG discs is being able to read them after a period of time ,Brand Recognition gets everyone I think and wouldn't you know that the Verbs would be on sale after you bought the Memorex its always the way

those memorex are made with CMC MAG dye and that particular dye is tested in the media and drives forum its just under a different brand name Bulkpak 2.4x DVD+R DL [CMC MAG-D01-00] we appreciate your effort to test the Memorex but I'd say dont waste your money with those discs For DL's its Verbatim the only discs that work properly

JVC is supposed to start shipping DL RWs in the second quarter of 2007 they will be 2X ,and say they have 4X capable that they can release but won't say when

Atlantic City in N Jersey for all its reputation and casinos is in the middle of a slum and it goes on and on .New York where I lived the longest has the same, Manhattan and all its prestigious addresses, Park ave , Madison Ave is only minutes away from some of the toughest and run down areas in new york and maybe the country ,East LA ,parts of ST Louis ,South Philly man I could go on and on bottom line theres no Eden on this planet

No, Florida's a shit hole. My parents went to Miami for the '94 Superbowl and they were appalled at just how disgusting it was. Pain Man, does this happen to be the basis for your loathing of Florida , if you had said Miami then I might have agreed with you, it has gone down hill since the mariel flotilla days but still has some really exclusive neighborhoods . There are really lots of beautiful places in Florida to visit and great places to live ,yeah it has hurricanes,and no the alligators are not out of control eating everyones kids the midwest has tornados , northern states have blizzards, the west out of control fires and drought . setting it to 2x wont do anything for you as you can see in Destination Media the drive only sees that media as 4x. Start by looking for a newer firmware for your drive and see if it helps .The drive might just be on the way out
