  1. I did stop using the PS2 to play DVDs pretty quick cos it was so shite db. Makes you wonder about the quality of the blu-ray player in the PS3 when it sees the light of day eh ?
  2. http://www.samsung.com/au/products/optical...vd/sh_d162c.asp Is that your drive ? If so, as you can see it only reads DVDs as we talked about above. Not sure where you are in the world but there are plenty of cheaper/better DVD?RW drives available. If you're in the US try www.meritline.com or for UK/Europe take a look at www.svp.co.uk
  3. I didn't realise it was a DVD-Rom - silly me !!! Yeah a dvd-rom will only read and play DVDs it can't write them ! Therefore it won't show up as a suitable drive for writing in ImgBurn. It sounds like it's a combo drive that does write to CD's though If you're looking to write blank DVDs you will need to change your drive to a DVD?RW.
  4. I have a NEC1100 in a box in the attic ! It certainly burnt faster than the speeds posted at the top, firmware upgraded stopped a couple of years ago but you can still get the last one produced either from http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/1333 or possibly try www.rpc1.org
  5. The guides that kev posted above should sort you out - if not post back with more details and we can try and help

Perhaps the session was more boring than normal ?
  7. With the exception of the episode I mentioned previously the series improves on it's slightly shaky start now !
  8. To check this we will need you to copy/paste an ImgBurn log here for us. The first thing that will do is confirm the rated write speeds of the media you are using - it may be that 1x or 2x is not supported on those discs, therefore the drive will use the minimum that is supported. The second thing the log will tell us is what dye is on the media you are using. Typically skipping and poor playback is the result of crap media. Your log will be able to confirm this to us - for instance your discs might be using CMC MAG dye which is probably one of the worst available and could certainly cause the playback problems you mention.
  9. and explorer sees the drive ok ? Reports it correctly ? What other programs are you using that see the new drive ok ? Have you tried disconnecting the power on the new drive, checking all the cables etc and then restarting the pc ?
  10. VAT is 17.5% PM For future reference.....

  12. These are DVD video files yeah ? Can you post a copy of the log from ImgBurn, a copy/paste the exact error message box you get and also confirm the file types and how you created them ?

  14. I still have 3x of those discs in a cupboard at home - I think they may gather a fair bit of use before I can find a use for them

He even made the news over here - with our MP's, popstars etc for competition that's some effort !
  16. Just a brief reply from me - I am sure a more technical one will follow tho My guess is that ImgBurn is waiting for your drive to do something, you said yourself the drive is happily spinning away. Can you copy/paste the log from IB before you re-boot ? That might help, also is the firmware upto date for your drive ? Finally, as a last resort can you not open the drive with the manual paper clip overide ?? There should be a small hole on the front of your drive, when stuck if you carefully unfold a paperclip and poke it in there the drive should reset
  17. Careful - db's zombie tendencies may mean he not only picks but also eats your brain blu.....
  18. Is there anything db hasn't broken I wonder
  19. Stoppit blu You almost looked pleased
  20. Excuse my question (I have no idea about your PC skills etc) I assume your PC is reporting DMA as enabled, did you follow the handy guide in the FAQ's to actually delete the controller and then on re-boot you should automatically have DMA enabled ? As the FAQ says, sometimes Windoze reports DMA as enabled even when it isn't......
