  1. I guess it's not Verbatim media.
  2. Hi and welcome to the forum, T101! There is a later firmware for that burner. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Lite-On/SOHW-832S/files.html Try to use 2.4x.
  3. Looking at this table there is no later strategy added an in your currently flashed firmware. http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/stratinfo/en/4/0 I guess the 8x labeled Verbatims were released after 2005-07-01 and therefore not added in the firmware.
  4. Then the media you inserted is not supported in the firmware.
  5. One hint if it will work or not is to insert the empty disc and use the Write mode of ImgBurn and see if there are any supported speeds listed.
  6. Go to this place: Main Menu -> Help -> ImgBurn Logs In that text file - find the part that is from your failed burn and paste it into a posting window here.
  7. Try to put in a commercial DVD and see if you can play it in a media player. If that fails - it's dead. I like Pioneers. But there are others that are good, as the Optiarc 720x serie.
  8. I have two burners attached to the same IDE cable. No issues.
  9. Sounds more as your burner decided to die. Reading others that have the same writer it sounds as a 'not very good writer' and it also seems that Gateway will not release any new firmwares so I do think the best solution is to get a new nice writer that will work better than your current ever would do. Especially since the brand of media you are using is best supported by newer released burners.

    Snow

It's snowing here right now. I just hate it. I wish I could direct it to Australia instead. Seems as you need it more. I've read that the projection of dead is now up to 300.
  11. According to the log, ImgBurn can only find a DVD reader. Can you see your installed DVD writer in Windows Device Manager? Control panel -> System -> Windows Device Manager
  12. Hi and welcome to the forum, tinpanalley! Do you know if your mother board is using Nvida chipset for the SATA channel that is connected to your writer?
  13. The 'error' is that the hard disk that you are using to feed the burner with is either slow/def ragged or that you use it for another task while you are burning. More or less - the hard disk can't feed the writer with data at the same rate/speed as you have selected as burning speed.
  14. Have you tried any other write speed as 8x or 12x?
  15. Did the issue with not reading cd/dvds happen after your attempt to update the firmware?
  16. If you go to the Windows control panel (System) and under DVD/CD ROM devices find you writer and just right click on it and select uninstall and then let Windows restart - does that change anything?
  17. You could write a script in a .bat file using the command line options of ImgBurn and then let it run on it's own.
  18. Can you post what you have in the filter drivers? Main Menu -> Tools -> Filter Driver Load Order Then hit the 'Copy To Clipboard' button and paste the info into a posting window here.
  19. You have an old version of the program. To me it looks in the logs as your HD/Blu-ray reader is gone. What happens if you insert an already burned disc in your writer - can you see/play that disc in Windows Explorer? That you got the error with the RITEK-S04-66 media is more likely that your burner doesn't really like that brand. Older burners can have problems with those brands. The last log shows that the burner do have issues writing to that media. I also think that if you had the Verify option enabled, you would got some errors in that phase. If you insert one of your blanc discs - what does the status row in the lower left corner of the program say?
  20. Hi and welcome to the forum, nikhil! If you have this setting enabled - it will already change the book type for you automatically. Have you tried to burn something on +R media to see if it changed it for you?
  21. They already have some advanced features on the latest models. In theory it should 'learn' the media you are using and produce better burns - in practice it's more of sales talk. I also have the Lite-On iHAS120 model and I can't say I was impressed by it so it's currently only collecting dust. I read a nice post over at another forum yesterday and I agree with him that Lite-On is focusing more on sales talk than actually provide support that makes the current burners worth buying for the true burning purpose. http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/liteon-24x-drives-265458/
  22. Hi and welcome to the forum, jcleav! It looks as you have the latest firmware for that writer installed. Can you look in this place to see if you can find that log in which you got that error message? Main Menu -> Help -> ImgBurn Logs
  23. I have a Lite-On Lite-On DH-20A3H that I use for scanning purpose. I don't use it for burning with +R media as you get the PMA update failures. For burning purpose I use a Pioneer. The Optiarc AD-720xx serie is also nice for burning purpose. So I would buy a Lite-On for the scanning and another one for the burning task.
  24. You should be able to find them in any decent computer shop.
