looks like there is a firmware update, not sure it will help with those disks tho?

    kind of hit or miss

what's running in the background that might be interfering?

  2. back on topic

    :whistling:

the firmware you installed/updated only tell the dvd burner how to burn different blanks

the drivers windows uses for optical drives are all native(part of) to the operating system

the ide controller may have a special driver or use one that's part of/supplied by windows

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

this program has a sensor report under the computer part that shows the voltages on your system

a 98 power supply is asking for trouble, but then again usually you burn them up just burning cd's too fast

having another dvd burner to test with, would save a lot of hassle/time/trouble

the voltages will look like this

    Voltage Values:

    CPU Core 1.44 V

    +3.3 V 3.30 V

    +5 V 5.11 V

    +12 V 12.16 V

    mine are pretty stable

  3. Product Specifications

    DVD Family Write

    DVD+R 16X maximum by CAV

    DVD-R 16X maximum by CAV

DVD+R9 8X maximum by Zone CLV

DVD-R9 8X maximum by Zone CLV

    DVD-RAM 5X maximum by PCAV

    dvd+r9 means dual layer

try with some verbatim and burn at 2.4x

no you cannot use 2 cd's or even 2 single layer dvd's

  4. karaoke cd+g are like music cd's on steroids, not only do you have the problem of tracks(Imgburn doesn't support yet),

but the graphics are in a hidden sub track, then your burner has to support even that

everyone seems to be switching to digital, mp3+g

  5. New laser write strategies for 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+R and 4x DVD+RW media.

The firmware update will NOT allow the DVD300 drive to write at 8x speeds. The DVD300's maximum recording speed is 4x no matter what recordable DVD media is utilized.

Further support of black CD-R media.

Improvement in readability of certain DVD+RW media.

Improved strategies to increase the number of writes to DVD+RW and CD-RW media.

    Other general errors resolved.

nothing to lose trying to update the firmware

  6. let's investigate further

put a blank in with imgburn open, post the right hand windows contents

  7. it's probably not a program issue, try the drive all by itself at the end of the cable(ide) jumpered master and on the closest power connector to the power supply

my nec 3550 worked great for about 18 months till it got dirty, I resurrected it with compressed air then finally tore it apart to clean

my nec 3520, 40 and 50 were not the most durable drives, but they usually burned even cruddy media

  8. My point was nero does not use any filter drivers but relies on spti, older versions used nero aspi, but it was selfcontained not system wide.

Now that packet writting Incd would best be described as a plague not a filter driver.

Looks like the poster is leaving a lot of programs loaded all the time that don't have to be active.

  9. Many drivers are added by Nero, Roxio etc

what filters/system drivers does nero load?

    Spinner?
