  1. I'd like to buy a monkey....
  2. It would appear that I too am a flaccid superhero , as I got the same email, but from "Allan" rgetzqmfe@phoneexchange.com. I know what I'd like to do with the email . It ended with this shite Be bold-and mighty forces will come to your aid. Never forget the facts are important but it's the opinion of the facts that causes comment. I'd like to show them a mighty force...
  3. I have never used DL's for data, but I would fully expect the same outcome. If it's a matter of just using them for something, I'd use them for video, but make sure you have another version as backup. Or sell them on ebay LOL.
  4. I've had the same results with RITEK-D01-01 DL discs, failure to verify. The odd one will play well on stand alone players, but I have strong doubts to their widespread compatability and longevity. They've long been considered unreliable DL media, and recent personal testing has shown me that they have not improved. Like Corny says, better media is your best bet.
  5. You wouldn't happen to have both DVDD & IB open with the same drive selected would you?

    DL Media Tests

Some of this has been posted on another site, on the advice of a friend posted it here also. I've been doing some personal DL media testing the last while, more specifically non-Verbatim. The reason for that being obviously that Verbatims work very well, known fact. The first testers were of the Ritek nature, with similar results to most everyone else. Failure to verify, etc. Next on the burning block were Fuji DL's, with the following results. Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D00-01 Book Type: DVD-ROM Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,578,943 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,197,887 Layer Information: Layer 0 Sectors: 2,001,280 (50.02%) Layer 1 Sectors: 1,999,616 (49.98%) Burned with a NEC3520, at 2.4X, 4X was an option though. I've had very good luck with these so far, and fully intend to pick up more. All things being equal (ie price) I'd still give Verb's the nod, but only because of their widespread success rate, not because I've had them work any better. If anyone has some other test's they'd like performed on these, let me know, if possible I'll conduct them.
  7. Corny's method works very well, you don't need to click OK after the successful burn either.
  8. Can't check it out as the at work firewall has it blocked ROFL. "No Religion at Work!"

    Rocky Balboa

Ooooh, I can't wait! I'm now going outside to play in traffic.
  10. The ultimate answer IMO, but highly unlikely, would be a truely functional commercial skip feature. Most new "hour" long shows (for example Smallville) are 39-42 minutes in length. Thats 18-21 minutes of commercials per hour! That's why I don't watch much broadcasted TV, I wait for the DVD's to save myself the agony of all that propaganda.
  11. I would guess that it's all old stock now when it comes to VHS blanks, or at least very close to the end. Apparently Wal-Mart will no longer be stocking VHS in 2006. Most video rental shops here don't bring in any VHS at all anymore, and are selling off they're old stock. You can pick up a stand alone DVD recorder for about $150Can. now, and the selection of new VCR's for sale is shrinking almost daily. They had a good run though, 20+ years of strong sales and rentals, DVD's won't be dominant that long.
  12. Ahh yes, the ten hour tape. I don't miss splicing torn tape even a little. What's the real kick in the head is remembering thinking $3 for a TDK video tape was a good deal
  13. I would expect it to be equal to a home recorded VHS EP 8 hour dollar store tape recorded from aluminum foil wrapped rabbit ears. Would look awesome as a demo for a 60" plasma
  14. My personal limited testing with Ritek +DL's has not yielded good results. I have so far had decent luck with Ricohjpn +DL's though.
  15. Welcome to my SHIT LIST Maxell! Maxell is of the opinion that CMCMag media is of a HQ nature and they will only replace defective media, not unburned ones. I couldn't be bothered to harse about with shite discs, so I now have 50 nice gold Maxell coasters, and I will no longer buy squat fuck from them.
  16. My last Ritek G05's are showing 4X on the NEC3520, 8X on the Plextor
  17. I bot 2 spindles of Maxell 8X -R's on the weekend. One spindles media code was RITEKG05, good enough, but the other was CMCMAGAE1 ! I'm in the process of making a lot of noise with Maxell. After a phone call I can mail them off for an exchange, but I'm waiting for an explanation, if I don't get a satisfactory answer, they will be going on my Shite List. Unfortunate that a decent company has to stoop to selling shit products.

    The Fog

I bot it a couple years ago, but haven't got around to watching it yet
  19. Not me, I'm swearing loudly at the mic before I've even set the time

    Plextor PX-708A

I haven't been able to find it for sale yet in Canada, should be readily available apparently within a month. LabelFlash looks a lot more interesting than Lightscribe, but a colour printed disc (inkjet) is still nicer IMO.

Don't forget Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh.
  24. Use whichever program you like to create an ISO image, be it Shrink, Elby's CloneDVD etc. Then use ImgBurn to burn it on a DVD! Guide for the latter in the guides section. It's a rather exhaustive and complete guide, you shouldn't have any trouble
