Rastus2; I have used the same cleaning disc for the past 3 years and haven't done a bit of damage. Follow the directions and you shouldn't hurt the drive....

Your media is reall bad/nasty/dam well worthless, try some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus discs as they are the best and what we overwealmingly recommend here. I can't tell about your firmware, it isn't listed at rpc-1 Try opening IB and right clicking your drive and select check firmware on the bottom of the menu and see what it tells you.

IB will install over the last one and ask you if you want to keep your old settings...pretty neat. I don't uninstall and then reinstall and have never experienced a problem.
