if it is a normal drive you may as well swap it out for a new dvd writer, its pretty easy to do. price? that will depend on your region i suppose, are you in USA/Europe or? if we know the region we can link to sites

unfortunately you can't write to a dvd-rom you will need a writer, they arent very expensive and may give you more luck trying to read the disc. can't hurt to try imgburn at home , i haven't had nero on any of my pc's for a long time , imgburn never fails my needs
