yeah its a cd burner wont burn any dvd's, Pioneer 111d is good ,Plextor 760 ,Benq 1670 ,and NEC 3550A drives ,beware of the new NEC18x drive its not a true NEC drive but one made in conjunction with sony an experiment of the 2 companies working together its getting some bad reviews found that from a Google search Check www.meritline .com www.newegg.com 2 companies I've done business with and was completly satisfied .These are in USA

I wouldn't say you wrecked the drive you just got one that was no good it happens you should update your firmware as new ones become available they are instructions for the drive and also what media it supports IF you stick to the same media and it works fine then probably not what dye does the imation use you can find out by putting one in the burner and then looking at the Manufacturer ID looks like this Pre-recorded Information: Manufacturer ID: RITEKG05 Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Book Type: DVD-R Part Version: 5 Disc Size: 120mm

What drive do you have, do you know if you have a dvd burner in your computer or a DVD Rom /CDRW this will only READ dvd's and write CD's not burn DVD's. Open IMGburn copy and paste the drive model from the destination box . You might have a DVD +Rw drive but untill you provide some info its just guessing . Also what media "brand' are you using ,we only recommend Verbatim and Taiyo Yudens

if you're attempting to make an Iso of an already existing disc then the read error is exactly that, the drive cant read whats written if its a disc you're attempting to duplicate then look at it carefully for dirt or a scratch ,but all said we really need more info and like Corn said a log is the place to start

after my week from hell I'm a little jumpy about the possibility of group hugs a firm handshake will do at the moment reading the post he never got the "this disk could not be burnt, because it is designed for more high-speed devices" that was his interpretation of what he thought the message should say . The real IMGburn message was " Write Protected " so the age of the drive doesn't mean anything its just some confusion thrown in by the poster . "Currently ImgBurn could not detect if the disk written is supported by drive." more confusion here is he expecting IMGburn to read the disc ? IB opens the drive queries it and the drive reports back to IB if it can or cant and then IB reports that in the log this is my reason for asking for the log it would be cut and dried instead of all the confusion ,it would show us what drive,firmware ,media etc,etc, all the good media is rated from 1X to 16x Looks like he's trying to burn a file thats "write Protected " what kind css /macro something else who knows is there a write protected floppy in his drive

be wary of the new NEC 18x drives they are part of an experiment .Nec and Sony got together to build this one,they're not true NEC's

you think you might give the display of the IP address a rest it was really annoying back in the decrypter days its a been there done that thing

post a log of whats going on with your burn ,thats where the info is stored, everything else is guessing and pretty much a waste of time

the PIO 111 is a good burner the reason we say use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden is quality control they make great discs ,the cheaper ones you can burn 50 out of a hundred perfect then the next 50 nothing but problems its the consistancy of the Verbs and TY's that make them a cut above .For your F/W right click on the burner in IMGburn and look at the last line Firmware update ,you have to close out all other programs to flash the FW, download it save it to a folder then close everything IMGburn included and then open the folder and try again. Why cant you put it into your computer is it a laptop if it isn't then theres no reason you cant install it in your box flash it and then put it back in the external enclosure

Re the Audigy card ,I almost went crazy installing an audigy tried everything before I called creative they wound up sending me an install cd that worked it was different drivers that they sent me the OS was XP FWIW

Thanks guys. I will slow it down to a snails pace and try 1 x. How do I know if the player is on its way out? Also, if you let the Imgburn set the layer break at the best spot, IF it changes it would that affect the verify? How would you set it? you can try to set it to 1x but its not a supported write speed and 1x really isn't supported by either drives or media these days the recommendation was 2.4X

I considered releasing my contents on the Princos also after all the work and no joy
