That the burner was manufactured by Hitachi and sold under the name LG. I tried to find a book setting firmware, but I couldn't find any.

Hi and welcome to the forum, Sambellina! That it stops at 16% is that 16% of the disc will be used for your .avi file - so you can add 84% more data if you want so.

Some posts on the net says it's a re badged Hitachi. I guess that's why the LG commands doesn't work.

Hi and welcome to the forum, MNNY! It's a LG writer. If you use default settings ImgBurn should booktype your +R media by default. Post a burning log - that will show if the book type worked.

If the Indian made Verbatims are of less quality I don't know as I can't find any of those DL discs around my place. I do know that the quality amongst spindles can vary. It's also possible that another speed like 4x; 6x; 8x could increase the quality of the burns. It's just a trial and error to find out that.

Normally when a burner is broken, even single layer discs ends up with write errors. If you have access to another computer, try to burn a DL disc in that computer with your burner.

Yes, when I had my SATA issues, also single layer burns went banana.

A reading error. The burned disc is in a condition that it can't be read. You could post the latest 'successful' burn. You'll find it here: Main Menu -> Help -> ImgBurn Logs

You own problem is this: This guy in this thread had more or less the same issue - only that his burner reported a different error message - but it failed to set the L0 Data Zone Capacity. He is also using 'less good' media that could indicate a reason for the problem. A firmware update solved his issue. In your case there have been no new firmware released for your burner in at least 1.5 year and I doubt there ever will be any new one released as it's that long since it was released. So what to do - buy better media? It will not help you as you already use the best media. You have already got the burner replaced and still same issue. That leaves just one option left - replace it with a better brand of burner. The years that I have been in DVD forums - the Matshita burners have been the most frequent burners to have burning problems. So why do they still put them in computers? Because they are cheap and computer companies want to make the computers as cheap as possible. To put in a better brand of burner usually costs more and consumers tend to buy the cheapest computer that they can find. With the prices of todays DVD burners - go for a good burner and it will save you the price of many burned coasters.
