Need Help New to All of this Please Help Me
Shamus_McFartfinger replied to generalmusic's topic in ImgBurn Support
Soooooooo........ you'll probably be capturing in either AVI or MPEG format, depending on your hardware. I won't go into the details on how this is done as it *is* outside the scope of this forum and this software but once you have your video in a format and size you can use, VSO DivXToDVD will convert it to the VOB, IFO and BUP files you need. It's then just a matter of getting ImgBurn to create an image file (ISO) from your source files or burning directly to disk. -

It actually told me defragging would be a good idea..... which I did. 90 minutes later and the drive looks the same now as it did before. I knew there was a reason I just don't bother anymore. -

Welcome aboard and all that. Honestly, the first thing I'd do is ditch your media. Get some Verbatims or Taiyo Yuden media and see if it helps. Riteks just ain't what they used to be. -

LOL!! I know what it is. I bought my first computer the same year you were born. I gotta ask though, what the hell do you do with your 5 1/4" floppy drive? I haven't used one of those in so long I can barely remember them. I actually cleared out one of my "computer bits" cupboards about a month ago and found hundreds of them full of Soundtracker modules. (Amiga music modules). -

Oh contrare, Your Munificence. Regardless of what the name of the new version happens to be, the old, free version specified above in my short (and obviously overlooked) diatribe is still VSO DivXToDVD. Even as we mortals tremble and quiver with the merest mention of your true name and that by correcting you I condemn myself to eternal torment in the pits of The Abyss where, on a daily basis, my testicles shall be removed and sewn to my armpits, I humbly submit that even one of your greatness cannot change the past. So there. <testicles in ready mode> -

Authoring video DVDs is outside the scope of this software. Hence, no guides. If you need to convert a home movie, for example, from mpeg to dvd format then try VSO DivxToDVD. (The old, free version). Then load the newly created VOB files into ImgBurn. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=vso_DivXtoDVD -

Defrag? What's that? -
I often wondered this myself. After much searching last year (or whenever it was) I came to the conclusion that it couldn't be done. Anyone else?

I've always been a huge fan of freeware/shareware and PD software. Not becuase it's cheap but it's usually better supported, updates are frequent and the software does exactly what it says it'll do. ImgBurn, for example. There's some great stuff around if you look around a bit. Media Player Classic, Opera, ImgBurn, AudioGrabber and Open Office are proof that you don't have to fork over a furtune to enjoy your PC.
-
You're right about the brightness thingy. It's about the only thing MPC has missing. With the K-Lite codec pack installed, Media Player Classic will happily view Quicktime videos as well as bucketloads of other formats. MusicMatch is a great program but I find it bloated and slow. Afterall, it's basically an mp3 player/cd extractor with a few bells and whistles attached. I still use on old version of WinAmp for mp3s because it's fast. Newer versions of WinAmp can do internet radio just like MMJB. For extracting /ripping cds, AudioGrabber is a brilliant, simple and free tool.
-
Give me Media Player Classic anyday. It's faster and more flexible. It doesn't want to connect to the net every 5 minutes. It doesn't collect and transmit data about the user. It doesn't want to copy protect everything on your drive and it works on every windoze OS. Why would anyone want to use Windows Media Player?

Yep. Queensland (where I am for those who don't know), is one of the culprits still living in the 1900s. The latest reason given for not having daylight savings here is an expected increase in skin cancer rates because of longer hours spent in the sun. (Queensland is the skin cancer capital of the world). This truly brilliant fact comes from the same government who didn't institute daylight savings 15 years ago because it makes curtains fade more quickly and that milking cows would have been confused by it.

Definitely a case of too many anal probes.

Yes......... but not on a Friday.

Hollywood seeking to secure you can't play your DVD on your PC?
Shamus_McFartfinger replied to dbminter's topic in Chat
Pah! Let them try, I say. It all seems pretty dependent on WMP - which I don't use anyway. As for not working on Linux - that may be stretching it a bit. Besides, do you not think that companies such as Cyberlink will take this to court? I know I would if a large chunk of my income came from royalties derived from inclusion of my software with the sale of DVD drives. -
I still think it's the anal probes.
-
Alot depends on how the things are setup by the manufacturer. For example, some HP computers (like the crappy pavillion I once had) would only recognise a drive as master if it was connected to the middle of the IDE ribbon cable and slaves attached at the end (which is different to every other PC I've ever used). The CD-ROM would not boot the recovery CD unless the drive was configured as drive M: (which took me a while to figure out). More info would help alot.

Scully: Are you sure it's aired on a Tuesday or have the martian anal probes (and subsequent disorientation and unexplained time loss) convinced you that it's Tuesday when it's really Friday? Inquiring minds wish to know....... The truth is out there.

It?s basically the by-product slop produced during the fermentation of beer. The impurities, I suppose you?d call it. People either love it or hate it. I grew up on the stuff and still love it.

I know what you?re talking about. I remember someone doing this as part of a video aid for DVDD a few years ago. Was ?Blink? the name of the s/ware used?
