  1. Update your burner's firmware to the latest version (A111) and try again. Failing that, get Verabtim DVD+R DLs 2.4x MKM-001 Made In Singapore and it should work

To copy a DVD use the Read mode to make an ISO image from your disc, then switch to Write mode and burn that ISO image to a blank disc. If you have the VIDEO_TS folder on your HD then you'd use the Build mode to burn it to a blank disc. Have a look in the Guides forum for details on these operations As for your captured VHS videos, you'll need to convert them to DVD-Video format before burning, and I believe you can do that using DVD Flick (free) or ConvertXtoDVD (paid but does more stuff)
  3. The progress is shown exactly as reported by your drive. I have an LG burner that just says "Erasing Disc" and no progress report at all
  4. Yes, there'll be a new version out pretty soon
  5. The book type is written to the disc at the end of the burn process. Your drive is a Samsung, and ImgBurn automatically booktypes +R media on those drives, provided that the drive accepts the command. By the way, if you feel adventurous, you could crossflash your burner to a Samsung SH-S162L (latest TS08 firmware) and possibly improve the quality of your burns
  6. ImgBurn burns the ISO image as it is (i.e. it doesn't modify anything). Software player can increase the volume if it's too low (depends on the settings used) so usually it sounds better on a computer than on standalone DVD players.
  7. If you mean AutoRun/AutoPlay then yes, it's Windows XP doing it. Try going to Tools/Settings/Device tab, untick Play Data Disc Automatically then reboot your computer. If it doesn't work as you've expected, just to back there and re-enable it
  8. There's nothing to fix in ImgBurn, as that problem is due to your media/drive/firmware combination. You're using good media and your drive's firmware is the latest available, so it seems the drive is at fault. I doubt it'll solve your problem, but try a lens cleaner on that drive. The best option would be to get a new buner
  9. Choosing DVD-R or DVD+R really depends on your use: if you're using for video, some standalone DVD players prefer one format over the other (the cheap ones will play any format); if you're using on videogames you'd need to test which format your particular unit likes the most; as for PC drives they'll accept anything

    Problem

Do a Full erase on that disc and enable Verify the next time you burn to that disc. Also, in the Options tab, you might want to use filesystem(s) ISO9660 + Joliet. By the way, you don't need to erase the DVD+RW before burning: just proceed as usual and, when asked, confirm to overwrite it
  11. What blutach meant is that you don't need DVD Shrink to backup a dual-layer DVD to a dual-layer 8.5GB blank. Now, if you want to backup your dual-layer DVD to a single-layer 4.7GB blank then yes, you do need to use DVD Shrink As for the DVD+RW problem, try this: open ImgBurn, switch to Write mode, insert your DVD+RW, click the Erase Disc button (looks like a disc with a red eraser on it) and then click Full. It'll take a while, but doing this will fully format your DVD+RW. By the way, you don't need to erase your DVD+RW before rewriting on it again: just answer yes when ImgBurn asks if you want to overwrite it. That way you won't need to format it again
  12. (from GMT -03:00 )
  13. Try Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks
  14. There is also newer firmware (TS08) available for your burner
  15. Please read the 2nd post of the FAQ thread
  16. From what I could find, it seems your Sony DRU-840A burner is in fact a re-badged Samsung SH-S202 burner, so try the Samsung tab of the Book Type dialog (Tools/Drive/Change Book Type or click the 'open book' icon).
  17. The default settings should be fine (go to the Options tab and click Reset Settings just to be sure ). If you're worried that the final result might not be what you want, set Output to Image File before clicking the Build button. That way an image file will be created, and you can mount that image file to a virtual drive (with a program like Daemon Tools, Alcohol 52%/120%, etc) to check how it turned out.
  18. You should only use the other alternatives if you can't use SPTI for some reason.
  19. The most compatible filesystem(s) option is ISO9660 + Joliet. If you have files with names longer than 64 characters you might want to use ISO9660 + Joliet + UDF. By the way, the most compatible UDF revision is 1.02. Since you're burning important data, leave Verify enabled when burning and, especially, don't use cheap media: they may burn and verify OK for now, but later the disc could be unreadable. Preferrably use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks, as these have proved to keep their quality over time
  20. Do those discs play OK on the computer? Have you tried them on other standalone DVD players? Please post the log if you can (you can find it Help/ImgBurn Logs).
  21. That drive can read and burn CDs, but it can only read DVDs.
  22. Does this answer your question?
  23. ImgBurn can only do 1:1 copy with its Read mode and it only works on non protected discs.
  24. Unless your try burning another DL disc, we can't rule out the drive itself being defective. Apply the firmware update before trying though.
