  1. 50/50 is recommended for greater compatibility with DVD players, as some of them refuse to play 70/30 discs for some reason/limitation. You don't have to take the 50/50 proportion to the heart though: 51/49 will also work fine. In fact, if you can, you should try a 70/30 burned dual-layer disc on your DVD player, and if it isn't jurassic, it'll probably play without problems. By the way, having a lot or little padding doesn't (or at least shouldn't) make a difference to the DVD player.
  2. Another compressed ISO format? I don't think The Boss has changed his mind on this subject
  3. External interfaces (USB/FireWire/etc) are slower and less reliable than internal interfaces (IDE/SATA/etc). Not to mention that an external burner is more prone to bumps/dropping/etc. May I ask why are you so reluctant in buying a new internal burner to replace the broken one you have? A new burner is as cheap as a spindle of DVDs these days.
  4. You haven't read what I wrote above. You're using ImgBurn as part of DVD Flick, hence the location of the log is set by DVD Flick. Verbatim uses high-quality dye manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Taiyo Yuden, while other brands (in order to maximize profit) use the cheapest crap they can find. You get what you pay for.
  5. Verbatim uses dyes manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC a.k.a. MKM) and Taiyo Yuden (TYG02/TYG03), so yes, they're supported by that burner.
  6. 'Invalid Address For Write' is pretty self-explanatory: the burner "says" that when the address you're trying to write isn't available for some reason (e.g. it was already written to, it's beyond the disc's capacity, etc). What is weird is that the 'Invalid Address For Write' error is usually collateral to another error, like 'Write Error' and similar. Replacing the drive is easy: read this how-to for the general guidelines. I'd like to add that you should use a 80-wire cable (buy one if the one you're using isn't 80-wire). If you're going to buy the new burner in a computer shop I'm pretty sure they can replace the old one for free
  7. Your burner doesn't support the media you're using (notice the weird available write speeds). It may work if you try with Verbatim 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) Made in Singapore DVD+R DL blanks or get a new burner that supports the Verbatim 8x blanks you currently have
  8. Please post the log of that burn (if I recall correctly DVD Flick saves the burn log to the project's output folder). //edit oops a little late
  9. You can drop any kind of audio file in the Create CD CUE window and it'll be converted to Audio CD at time of burning, provided your system has the DirectShow filters to decode the source audio files' format.
  10. Someone didn't see the Guides section...
  11. Most burners work well with DAO/SAO mode, but there are a few particular burners that like Incremental mode better. Both modes seem to do the same thing in the end so you don't need to worry about it.
  12. Also update your firmware ImgBurn reports what's your drive is telling, and that's a DVD-R DL disc, at least in the "eyes" of your burner.

  14. Then look for updated drivers (and BIOS) for your PCI SATA card, or at least remove its entry in Device Manager and reboot. Even though it's SATA it still uses DMA and may fall back to PIO mode due to driver bugs/issues.
  15. I have that same burner and mine never had problems burning Verbatim 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) DVD+R DL blanks
  16. ImgBurn only sends the commands you've chose, it's up to the burner to perform them or not, and it seems your drive did a pretty lousy job at that, if it did anything at all (look at the drive's name even they know it's sh*t). Notice the Status for that disc still shows as Incomplete. Try reading that disc on other drives and you might be able to extract the contents. If you feel adventurous, try the close track/disc on another burner (if it works it'll say Status: Complete).

  18. There's firmware A106 available for your burner. Remove any disc from the drive and close the tray before updating. Reboot after it has finished. Try burning again with a new blank disc, and if it still doesn't work then please read this: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000
  19. Install the latest drivers available for your motherboard's chipset (use SIW/Sandra/etc to find out which chipset you have) and try again. If there are no newer drivers then delete the storage controllers (IDE/SCSI/etc) from your Device Manager and reboot.
  20. From our experience Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden blanks give the best quality burns on most burners
  21. Open ImgBurn by right-clicking on it and choosing Run As Administrator. Does this solve your problem? If not, please post the log generated by the program (View -> Log if you closed it).
  22. And connect the burner to the black connector at the end of the cable (the blue one should go on the motherboard)
  23. Please post the log from when you've burned with Verbatim media.
